first ultrasound

My second appointment is this Wednesday I'll be 12 weeks on the dot. I'll be seeing the Dr. for the first time. I want an ultrasound. When is it customary to get your first ultrasound?

It really just depends on the doctor and your overall health. ..I had my first one at 6 weeks but that was due to a tubal reversal. ..and being high risk...everyone is different.

Thanks. My office told me they usually don't do them until at least the 12th week. They want me to wait(claiming insurance might not pay) and want me to wait. I'm not sure if it's becausethey don't want to be in the office late on new year eve or b/c of insurance. The only thing is that I have a PPO with really great coverage. I'm high risk because I'll be 37 on Friday & this is my first pregnancy. I have requested one anyway. Hope it's coveredand everything goes well.

Depends on the office. Mines does them standard between 6 and 8 at the first appt then at 12 for the nuchal translucency if you are doing it, then at 20 for anatomy (I am high risk so I also got one at 24 and 34 and will get one tomorrow at 5 days over due)
