Update to my BFP...now awaiting MC :(

Just had another U/S and the RE was guessing i should have been about 7.5 weeks.  Right away I knew it wasn't looking good when I didn't see any fluttering movement on the screen.  Ugh.  So as quickly as we had some surprise news, it is now not good news.  What an emotional roller-coaster.  :(

He gave me my options for how to mis-carry and I would like to avoid another D&C if possible.  We opted for an Rx which I'll take tonight...and now I can't remember the name.  It's one pill and he said I should start cramping within several hours or overnight and pass blood with some tissue.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I guess I should go to bed wearing a pad just in case?  Am I going to be up all night?  He said if this first dose doesn't work, I can try another dose in the next day or two.  Thanks all for any input.

Thank you for the kind words.  :)

Well, surgery is tomorrow but I can do it as an office visit with just local anesthesia. This is something that I didn't know was an option, but because I was so early on, she thought it was a good option. Downside is the pain, but should only last for 5-6 minutes.  heavy pain killers are given ahead of time and then the local.   A little scary but being fully knocked-out is scary too.  Appt is tomorrow at 9am and I should be home a few hours after that.  Sounds like the bulk of the time is spent on prep and letting the drugs kick in.  if anyone has had a D&C done as an office visit with only localized pain-killers, I would appreciate any feedback!  Pain...on a scale of 1-10??  My OB said much like very, very heavy menstrual cramps.  I delivered my daughter without an epidural (arrived at the hospital too late), so I figure if I can endure that, I can do this.  I hope.

I'm so sorry.  Its hard enough to know that you are miscarrying.  Having things be prolonged just makes it so much harder emotionally.  I think I told you, but I have had 3 D&C's and two of them were only a few months apart.  I have had no complications or problems with it.  Hope this is over for you quickly and am thinking of you.

I have a really frustrating update...misoprostol (2 rounds of 600 mg) did nothing but make me crampy, a little spotting and just felt icky all weekend.  I just left a message for my OBGYN to find out the next alternative.  Emotionally, mentally and just patience-wise, I am ready to just proceed with a D&C.  Really wanted to avoid it, but unless she thinks it is not advised since I just had one last July, I think that's the route were headed for.  I just can't imagine waiting what could be weeks for nature to take it's course.  So frustrating and emotionally draining!

That's my update...I'll post again once I hear from my OB.  Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and well-wishes!

yep, you summed it up perfectly for my reasons for hoping to avoid a D&C.  The nice thing about it is that you are done and the recovery time was fairly minimal.  it's almost like the wait time and prep was more difficult than the actual procedure or even going home afterwards.  My first and only one was done just 8 months ago, so my OB agreed that with this being so early on, handling it at home was a good choice.

Anyhoo, I'm doing okay.  Nervous, but relieved that there is a solution to this.  I hope to still be able to enjoy at least part of my weekend, but I also know I'm probably not going to be up to running around either!  I have a large bottle of 800 mg Ibuprofin leftover from my D&C ready to go.  I'll pick up some really pretty big pads today too.  :)

Thanks for all your support and thoughts, ladies.  I will report back on Monday with how everything went...just in case it's helpful for anyone else.

D&C's when done by correctly rarely have any negative outcome.  It's a pretty simple procedure.  I've had 3 of them.  There is however always the slight risk of a complication such as scar tissue.  So many choose to completely avoid that small risk and miscarry naturally.  I had 2 prior to having my son and had no problems, but I know a few women who did require laser surgery to remove the scar tissue.  It's not overly common though and most women had no problem at all.  Also, it is done under general anesthetic, and of course anytime that is the case there is some risk, although again it's rare especially in a simple procedure such as this.  Hope that helps explain...I am not speaking for Birds, I do not know what her reason is, but those are some of the reasons I am aware of.

Birds...how are you doing honey?  I am thinking of you.

Aw.  Im really sorry you are going through this.  I had a D&C last year.  Why don't you want another?  Does it decrease your chances?  Im sorry to ask, but I am a bit uneducated about D&Cs.  Don't know what I would do if it weren't for you ladies and the help and information I get from all of you.  I hope this gets started for you.  I'll keep you in my prayers.

After taking two rounds of misoprostol of 200mg, I called the RE since there was zero activity in getting things going.  his advice was to wait for two weeks and then we could try the meds again to see if my uterus was "ready to respond"  I was really down yesterday and didn't like the thought of waiting two weeks, but also really didn't want to do another D&C.  I decided to call my OBGYN and she said that dose is really low, and more for rippening the cervix then inducing a miscarriage.  She prescribed 600mg (three pills to be inserted vaginally) so this is what I'll do.  Now I'm more freaked out, and maybe I have read too many experiences online.  But, I'm ready for this to be over.  So I'm planning on calling in sick tomorrow and inserting them early in the am.  My daughter will be in school and if things get rolling, I'd rather her not be there in case she saw something that would freak her out.

That's my update...and hoping for an uneventful day tomorrow.

thanks so much for the explanation.  I guess this is how I would have imagined it, but it's really helpful to have it explained.  And relieved to hear that it starts off slowly with spotting...I guess that's the part I was worried about if I'm here at work.  So far, still nothing.  Tylenol, check.  Pads, check.  Let's get this going so I can move on.

thank you again...really, really appreciate it.  sending cyberhugs back your way!!  :)

Well, I actually needed the D&C for because I started to hemorage.  But that has happened to me 3 times, twice without taking the meds, so it's not the medication, just my body.  Unless it is a very early miscarriage, I seem to have trouble miscarrying naturally.  I was about 10 weeks, but fetus had stopped at about 6-7 weeks.

The cramping was much like period cramping, intensifying when tissue and large clots began to pass.  Nothing unbearable...I took extra strength tylenol and it handled things fairly well.  The bleeding started out slowly (I had already been spotting for quite some time) and again got heavier...like a very very heavy period...with some pretty good sized clots.  Normally that part just lasts a short time, then slows down but that is the time I started to get into trouble.

It's truly not that bad physically when you are fairly early as you are.  The emotional part is obviously far more challenging.  Once the bleeding hits AF like, you might be better off to go home rather then having this happen at work.  Just so you are in a more relaxed environment.  You should have lots of warning...as I said it usually starts out slow and gets heavier and crampier as time goes on.  It's not a big sudden whoosh or anything.

One thing to keep in mind.  If you start bleeding really heavy...by that I mean a pad an hour, then you do need to go to the Emergency room right away. It's doesn't happen for most people, so don't be scared, but it is something to be aware of.

Here holding your hand even if from cyberspace.

thank you both.  :)  I did the first suppository last night - it was Misoprostol??  or something like that. And as of this morning - nothing.  :(  I have one more to try tonight, but Amanda, I'll hope that it kicks in within the 24 hour window like yours did.  I would so rather not have another D&C, but I guess I would rather just get it over with if that's what is in store.

Amanda - did you end up needing the D&C because you knew the MC wasn't complete?  And how far along were you?  the fetus stopped growing probably somewhere around 6 - 6.5 weeks.  And how about cramping and amount of flow?  I just have no idea what to expect.  i went to bed wearing a pad and never had any cramping or even spotting.  So today I'm at work and just hoping that if it does kick in, I have enough time to run to the bathroom!  Ugh.  :(

Oh I am so so sorry.  You know my heart goes out to you.

With my first m/c I tried it the same way you are.  Yes, I would suggest wearing a pad.  For me it took about 24 hours though for things to start, but I know everyone is a bit different.  I did ultimately wind up needing a D&C anyway, but it had nothing to do with the prescription, I just don't miscarry naturally for some reason.  Most have no trouble with it and things get back to normal fairly quickly.

(((Hugs))) honey.  I will keep you in my thoughts.
