pattern of weight gain

Hi,

Please share what your weight gain experience in pregnancy was, particularly the pattern of weight gain.

So far mine was lost 8 lbs first trimester, regained that plus 22 more in the second trimester (yes, like 30 lbs in 3 months, though I do have a lot of swelling to help account for that), and now third trimester for the past 4 weeks have not gained at all (swelling is fairly stable).  My doctors were most unhappy with the 2nd trimester gain, and now I don't know how they're going to react about the no weight gain for the past month (I see them both next week).

I am eating, but not whenever and whatever I want. Have GD and so have to control intake and limit sweets and junk foods.  They also told me at my 30 week scan that my baby is too big and so I guess I am consiously trying not to eat too much (I DON'T want a cesarian).

Please share.  I would think that there is a huge range of normal!

Thanks.

With my daughter, I lost 16 pounds the first trimester, had no gain or loss second trimester, and gained 28 pounds the third trimester. So, I gained 12 pounds all total.

With my son, I lost 12 pounds the first trimester, then just slowly and steadily gained (2-3 pounds per month) through the second and third. I ended up gaining back 16 pounds, so gained a total of 4 pounds all together.

So far with this pregnancy (I'm only six weeks) I have lost a pound, then gained back two...so I'm staying the same so far.

I'm overweight, though, so don't tend to gain a lot of weight when I'm pregnant - I've already got enough body fat for the baby to feed off of! LOL. I think I lose weight because I start to consciously eat better...not as much fast food, no soda, etc.

Hi!  Let's see...when I was pregnant with my son I gained about 5lbs in the 1st trimester, about 6lbs in my 2nd Trimester, then my 3rd I gained about 9.  I gained a total of 20lbs, and I was so thrilled because I was all belly!   I ate lots of small meals throughout the day.  I also didn't eat anything past 7:30 at night, otherwise it stayed with me throughout the night and I'd get wicked heartburn.  Try to eat healthy light meals and drink lots and lots of water! At this stage water as I'm sure you know is essential.   If you're hungry eat!  Don't deprive yourself an indulgance now and then, but at this stage I would really try to restrict the sugars and junk food, they are doing nothing nutritional wise for you and baby, plus they are adding unneeded calories. Without seeing you it's hard to tell your body type, and what the "normal" range is for you, so I would just listen to your doctor, and everything in moderation!  Good luck!  Pam
