Super_sally888,
Graves is actually an auto immune disease that once you are diagnosed you have for life. I had what's called radioactive iodine treatment where you are on synthroid to get your thyroid to become "u" thyroid. But she also has be very careful because of the "auto immune disease" part.
robin1966,
Did you have treatment for your graves? if you have then you should be on synthroid...if you haven't you should be seeing an endocrinologist regularly during pregnancy and your ob. It is very important to keep it under control.
Hi Robin
Graves is where you make too much thyroid hormone. There are meds that can be given and your doctor would know which is safest during pregnancy. You could probably check on line as thyroid problems during pregnancy are quite common.
CF,
you are talking about hypothyroid. The opposite to what Robin has. Hypothyroid is very dangerous to pregnancy. Thyroid hormone is needed for proper brain development of the baby.
I am hypo and have increased my thyroid meds twice already, and likely still have a few increases ahead of me. My endo says increase in thyroid med requirement is 20 - 50% during pregnancy.
Hope this helps
Sally
You can actually take synthroid. Make sure you are monitored very carefully. My need for more synthroid actually doubled. You need to be on the right dose or the baby could be small.
