Re: Pregnant & Not liking this at all..

Okay, I just called the doctor to ask why they only did a urine test to check for pregnancy and she said that they did do a blood test, but for some reason forgot about it.  Forgot? OMG!!  She said she would look it up and check it and call me later tonite.  hmmm??  She proceeded to tell me that I still needed a pap as well.  She said they only took cultures and were not able to reach my cervix to do a pap. (which she did tell me at the end of the exam).  My exam was quite painful and she didn't finish.  I then asked her if I could finish up at my OB and she sounded upset now that I wasn't going to let her finish what she started.  But, she said, whatever I want to do.  They will just fax over all the info to the OB after I make the appointment.  My other tests (cultures and blood) she said should be back by the end of the week, so after I get those back I will schedule my OB apt.  IT'S OKAY TO WAIT TILL NEXT WEEK TO GO THE OB ISN'T IT??  IM ONLY ABOUT 4WEEKS PREG.???   If I am even PG.
As far as symptoms..late period..and im never late, 2 positive tests plus doctors urine test, lower back pain, cramps for a week now, lightheaded, low appetite.   More or less I am pregnant..most signs point to yes, plus we were trying!   And don't get me wrong I want a baby more than anything..but the pregnancy and the exams are getting me depressed, anxious and scared.   I can't tolerate the pap smears at all....they can't even get close to my cervix without me screaming!!  How am I going to get through all this???  I can't imagine being poked and prodded again!   I am miserable. ;(    Why do all the exams hurt me soooooo bad?  What am I going to do if they can't even finish the test?  Can they do an ultrasound instead of a pap?   I need help! ;(

Thank you much for the comment!  Today was a much better day!  I talked to my sister (who has 3 girls) and she explained everything that happens per visit and it doesn't sound bad at all.  A few things that I've read about, she said she never even had done to her, so that eased my mind!  I know if there are complications that more tests are done, but I pray I will be fine.  If not, then well, I just have to deal and be strong for my babys sake! :)  I think maybe I am getting over the initail shock that Im actually pregnant!!  And my nerves are calming down a bit now.
I am making an appointment to see an OB next week.  I love the idea about doing the consultation first and I WILL do that!! Thanks!   The files have to be sent because they already did all the blood work and took cultures (cervial exam).. they still have to do the actual PAP which is cells took from the cervix itself (she could not get to it at my visit, because I was hurting). Plus, they have to "LOOK" at it and she couldn't even see it.   I am quite sure I am just going to take a xanex to calm my nerves so they can get through the exam.
I think I am gonna be okay...:)   Thanks! ;)

Hello,
Just wanted to say hopefully your week has gotten better. I agree pregnancy isn't my favorite either, being pregnant takes quite a large physical tole and your body is not your own for a while, nor is it treated as such :-O(.   Not to depress you but paps are only the beginning of the indignities of pregnancy so If you can work on your mental ability to control your anxiety during exams then the rest of it will be less stressful.
Good Luck,
Joanne

Glad to hear about your HCG, but like the others have stated you will need to relax! Unfortunately getting a pap is part of the whole beginning of being "invaded" down there. Sorry!! : ( But finding an OB that you trust and helps you feel calm will make a world of difference, in all parts of your pregnancy at that.

Congrats and stay mellow!!!!!!!!

Take a deep breath and know that your current doctor is insensitive and has a lousy bedside manner. If I EVER had a doctor treat me that way I would change MD as fast as lightening. Just the fact that she was offended when you wanted to see an OB for your pregnancy is absurd!  I see my OB/GYN for All of my female reproductive health including regular paps and infections.

Find a good OB that makes you feel comfortable, listens to your concerns and doesn't make you feel uncomfortable in any way. Try to have a positive outlook and know that this isn't about pregnancy. It is about a bad doctor that treated you poorly. You also do not have to wait for any files to be sent to your OB! I mean, what are they going to send? The results to a pregnancy test? You are very early in your pregnancy. Most doctors don't even see patients until they are 8 weeks so you won't hurt anything by waiting. If you want to be seen sooner then go! If anything, you can just make an appointment for a consult to see if you like that OB and for them to answer any questions you may have. Ask them about the typical treatment guidelines that they follow and if there might be anything different for you given your medical history (I don't know if you have one that applies or not...just sayin). This will give you an idea about if they made you feel comfortable, if you would trust them with your and your baby's care, if they answered your questions thoroughly or just glossed over them with a few words, etc. With the right OB I think you will have a very positive experience with the treatment of your pregnancy. Hang in there and KUP.

And if you like...let the OB do your pap....they are probalby more skilled at it than the PCPs.  Your PCP doesn' have to do the pap.  You don't need to get into see the OB right away...just start taking a prenatal vitamin.    And be prepared to be poked and proded a lot more!

Hey that's a good level on your HCG.....I think you are probably close to 5 weeks if you care counting the two weeks prior to the due date of your period.   You get two freebie weeks.   Hang in there....before they did the embryo transfer and they gave me a mild dose of valium to help the uterus relax...maybe it could work for you....something....or just try deep breathing.

Hi Cheri,
All I can say is that I've been there.....paps used to be painful for me...I'd be very anxious and my anxiety just make me clench more and it would become more painful!  I even asked once for my Dr. to prescribe some tranqs for me and I'd pop one once a year just to relax before the dreaded exam!

It was all psychological for me.  I'm sure your anxiety is making it worse.  Now after going through countless procedures checking for answers to my m/c's, that dreaded pap smear seems like a walk in the park!

Relax!!  And congratulations!!  You will become desensitized to these things and it will get easier for you, I promise:)

First of all thanks so much for the support.  I don't think I could ever get enough of it!!!!     Okay here is the latest.  I AM pregnant!  Doctor called back and said my blood was taken and my HCG level was 139.  She says I am only about 2 weeks pregnant!  I thought I was more like 5 weeks!    I am scheduling to see an obgyn hopefully next Thursday.  But, I am NOT going back to my family doctor, and I am hoping that I have a better experience at the ob.  YVette- I was thinking about that.. seeing if I could take one of my anti anxiety meds before the exam.. I will most definately ask.  Thanks!  Magda- Funny thing is, I asked my doctor why I had the pain during the exam and she just said she don't know, but probably because I'm so upset and tense.  And after she did the cultures she just said, get dressed and I will be back with your prenatal vitamins.  It was like she didn't care.  I left the doctors pretty much as clueless as when I went in.    As to being scared... I feel stupid for feeling this way but I can't help it.  ;(   I have suffered from rapid heart rate and anxiety for years and now to add to it, my blood pressure is elevated, and I'm over 35.. so I am like at the HIGHEST of HIGH risk pregnancies.  OMG, someone just slap me!  Maybe this is all hormonal???   9 more months.......sigh*

First, congrats... but, you poor thing.  I have no idea why you would be in so much pain.  Have you had a pap smear before and was it painful?
I guess we're just all different... most of us here have been poked and prodded every with way with nothing more than a little discomfort but - though I can't think of what the context was - I have heard of other women having real difficulty with paps and things like that.
Perhaps you should ask them why you're in so much pain.  And then, perhaps you should just go to someone else.  Come to think of it, I remember a couple of people finding the trans-vaginal ultra sounds terribly painful and I couldn't understand why... they're so not painful.  But then they ended up going to another clinic or just having a different technician do the u/s and they were 100% fine.  So maybe it's nothing to do with you but rather to do with the person doing the pap!!!

I still don't know why the pap is so painful for you. Is sex painful for you as well?  Sorry so personal, but I asked you in a previous post, but never received an answer. You may have a tilted cervix.  I thought you were going to get into see an OB, why are you still dealing with a family doctor?  As Yvette mentioned, you will need the pap...you need to try and calm down and relax, this is only the beginning!  Good luck!

Pap smears are to check the cells for cervical cancer.  It has nothing to do with pregnancy.  Try taking a valium or something like that before you go in or practice deep breathing exercises while they're doing the pap.   They are just inserting a speculum which is probably the worst part.   You need to toughen up a bit.  Pap smear is a piece of cake.   I've gone through all kinds of infertility testing.....try having a teneculum clamped onto your cervix while they do a uterine biopsy for about five minutes.

And no they can't do an ultrasound on your cervix instead of doing a pap smear.

Wow, this so unfair. I can't believe they are giving you so much of a run around. Have you been going to this OB for awhile??? It seems like they are having a hard time getting it together.  Sadly, the best thing you can do is stay on top of them, but that really should not be your roll. As for as why your testing hurts, I am not to sure about that, perhaps it is because you might be really nervous and it causing it to hurt.

Oh, by the way Congrats!!!! With all those BFP's you are sooooooooo preggo!!! I understand though why you are still so cautious about getting fully excited!!!!!!!

Good luck and keep me posted!
