Ectopic or just Pregnant

Hi, I'm 38 years old, I missed my period so went to the Dr to have a preg test. The preg test was negative, but one week after I did it myself at home and it was "positive", so went to the doctor and did a pelvic and vaginal ultrasound, she said she could not see anything than a "nest", so I'm counting I have 3 weeks pregnant. I had other lab test done 2days ago and Nurse called me worry saying that my hormone level was really high, so she sent me to ER and they did again a vaginal ultra and the guy said he did not see a "pregnancy", so then the ER doctor told me he suspect I have a "ECtopic pregnancy" but not sure 100%, he said that in the ultrasound he sees the tissue but doesn't see the yolk with it, and went home thinking that if he's not sure about the ectopic part, why there is a tissue in my uterus? are they supposed to see the yolk in the sac at 3 weeks of pregnancy? what the high hormon level has to do with that?

It's hard some times to take the right decision, but my OBGYN doctor called me today and she thinks that is not an ectopic but she said that I'm miscarrying but I have not symptoms not bleeding, not pelvic pain, not nothing. I'll have a blood test work tomorrow to see how is everything, but definatelly she sugested to have a D&C. She also told me that the ultrasound doesn't show a sac yolk and that the hormone level was really high, so my mind is just going creazy...

Typically when levels are very high with no visible sign of a pregnancy, they will watch for etopic.  It is possible it's just too early as well.  If you have missed your period, then you should be about 4 weeks and usually the yolk sac is at least visible.  Its just hard to say when it's this early.

The reason they are talking about high hormone levels is that is a common sign in etopic.  It's not a diagnostic sign, just one clue.

haz gives excellent advice...do not ignore this.  An etopic not dealt with can get very serious, so make sure you are doing your follow up.  I am assuming they are doing another ultrasound?

I'm sorry your going through this and I wish you well.  You are in that wait and see time, and I know how frightening that can be.  Take care.
