5 or 7 weeks and not showing on ultrasound

If I count from the first day of my last period I'm 7 weeks and 2 days. If I count from the day I ovulated and KNOW I got pregnant (b/c we only had intercourse a couple of times that month) I'm 5 weeks and 2days. I went for the first ultrasound yesterday. They saw the gestational sac and yolk but no baby. The doctor said I'm probably earlier than I thought or its not developing and I'll miscarry.I'm going back for a second ultrasound in a week.  I still feel pregnant with nausea and exhaustion. I'm 37 and have been trying for 5 years. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? How did it end?

I know you are.  I wish you didn't have to go through this and there was some way to know for certain now.  Please know your not alone.  I know that doesn't help alot, but sometimes talking about it with people that have been there helps.

Don't read to much into symptoms...they come and go for many of us.  Let us know how you are doing.

I haven't really felt pregnant the last week. I've been tired and had a little nausea. I've lost some weight and now my stomach doesn't look as bloated and my breasts don't hurt as much anymore. I'm really scared. I'm afraid its already gone.

Hi there.  When counting weeks Dr.s always will go by the first day of your last menstrual period, so you would be considered 7W2D pregnant.  Even knowing exactly when you had intercourse does not necessarily mean you can know exactly when you conceived.  Sperm can live in the body for several days and it is almost impossible to know exact moment of ovulation, then implantation.  Implantation typically takes place several days after fertilization..anywhere from 5-12 is normal.

All that being said...at 7w you are right at that time where some will see a heartbeat, others won't.  It would be more likely to be seen on a transvaginal ultrasound then an abdominal.  Even things like the equipment used, or the skill of the technician can impact things.  Most will see a heartbeat at this stage, but there have been many cases on this forum where it wasn't seen at 7 weeks, then next ultrasound all was fine.  As you already know, it is also possible this will be a loss.  I hate to say that, but I hated it when people weren't honest with me.

I know the waiting is really awful.  Not knowing, especially when you have had a tough time conceiving is the worst.  Unfortunately all you can do at this point is wait and see, and your next ultrasound will give you a definitive answer.

I'm so sorry you are having such a difficult time...I have been in your shoes, the whole wait and see.  I truly hope all turns out well.

Take good care, and please keep us posted.  We are pretty good around here at supporting each other.

Amanda
