TMI, sorry in advance but I'm freakibg out....

i have been constipated in and off thru out this pregnancy. I'm currently 15wks and just took a poop. I did strain a bit but my concern is I bleed. And it was enough to show concern. Not just a few spots when I wiped. Is this normal? Should I call the doctor? I don't like to call for every little ailment without doing a little research first but I figured you ladies might shed some insight. First experience ever and I have had 2 children prior to this pregnancy. Any thoughts?

My doctor recommended Colace. It's over the counter and it's a safe stool softener.  I have to take an extra iron supplement so I understand the struggle. Prune juice did help as does witch hazel, the main ingredient in hemorrhoid treatments. Good luck!

I was constipated basically up until my 2nd trimester. Dr recommended Restoralax and its safe during pregnancy. Drink lots of water.. lots.  I also stopped drinking coffee for the first trimester. It's ok to have 200 milligrams so second trimester, I decided to give it a try and 4 minutes later, YAY! A great poop :-)

Thanks ladies. I forgot about the warn prune juice I will try that. The witch hazel thing I've never heard of but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Maybe fiber supplement is the next thing.

I take gummy fiber supplements with every meal. Way more than the recommended dosage on the label. My doctor said it's fine because there is no known toxic dosage of fiber. I think it gives me gas but without the supplements nothing moves. And I have a pretty healthy diet too. Unless I'm prepared to eat prunes and celery all day long I have to take the supplements.

Prune juice warmed has helped me. Also every night I wet a cotton ball with witch hazel and put on my anus. I leave it there till right before I fall asleep but you can sleep with it too. That helps shrink the roid. Good luck and congrats!

Ironically I eat an apple a day and eat raisen bran atleast 3 times a week. My favorite snacks are yogurt and frozen grapes and I drink about 2 liters of seltzer water a day and still get constipated. I'm going to try prunes in addition to more greens to se if that helps. But boy was that scary.

Fruit,  especially apples and plenty water are suppose to help.   If you are miserable,  you can take milk of magnesium.  Helps.

I was horribly constipated w/ my first & developed terrible hemorrhoids that bled and made having a bowel movement even more difficult. Try to get enough fiber, drink some Metamucil, high fiber cereal, drink plenty of water. Feel better.

I would let the dr know. You may just be developing hemroids. Make sure your drinking a lot of water 8-10 full glasses a day (I know- more bathroom trips :-/) make sure your getting enough fiber. Raison Bran every morning helps me stay regular. Working out can help too, even if it's just a quick walk around the block. I'm prego with #3, my kids love our walks after dinner.
