Unduction and time

So I was told today that if babies tests come back okay I will be induced. So can anyone tell me roughly the amount of time that lapses before labor starts or is it all up in the air...Would i be induced in hospital and then wait....I have an idea but not too sure....Share you experiences with this as I would like to hear about the possibilities...Apparently my cervix needed to be check ed today to determine how I would be induced ad the doctor mentioned wearing a tampon with certain chemicals to help induce labor but I know there are other methods.....What can I expect. Would labor be less painful...hahhha....will it be quicker...hahhaa.........or does it all depend on my and my body and how baby reacts.......just a bit in the dark till my next appointment on Monday................Thanks all, Have a great dad.

Yes, it depends on your situation and how ready your body is to go into labor - that will determine what methods will be used.  Drs can tell how likely the induction is to be successful by calculating  your"bishops score" so you might might ask what your number is.  Also,   Drs can to various things to help your body get ready for labor  and to increase your score.

My bishops score was incredibly low but I needed to be induced due to PIH.   I was only dilated to a 0.5 cm so my labor was induced with a pitcocen drip at 6am.  I experienced regular, PAINLESS, contractions until about 3pm, at which point I was 3 cm dilated and the dr broke my water.   Contractions became painful about 2 h later.    By about 10 pm, I
was fully dilated but was asked to hold off on pushing until midnight because the epidural
worked so well I couldn't even tell I was having contractions.  Jazmine was born 1h later.  So, a successful labor even though my body was not ready for labor.

If you are dilated enough, labor can be induced by simply breaking your water,  if your cervix is not soft the chemicals may be introduced into the cervix to help this process.  Some Drs use a membrane sweep to try and get the body to jump start labor.  Again, it all depends on your situation.

OMG.So they called me in to induce me on Wednesday morning. They tried a five hour gel first but after five hours nothing happened. then they tried  something called cerividel.A Prostaglandin E2 vaginal insert. It is a small rectangular pouch with a retrieval cord that looks similar to a tampon. It is inserted into the vagina. They said they would check after it had been 12 hours...Well, they did not take the darn thing out till it's maximum 18 hours cause if I was 'ready' there was no room in delivery and labor room so they did not want to risk it. After 18 hours they took it out and saw NO change. So......They put ANOTHER one in again.....I was cramping a little and some nurses said it was contraction and others said it was just cramps....After an overnight AGAIN I was in a lot of pain from cramping cause that sucker was so high inside me that it was very very uncomfortable to sit lay walk....Finally after 13 hours I told them to take it out cause nothing was happening and I was in pain, not to mention my mental healthy was weakening as a result of staying in hospital for all this time and I was not even in any labor yet...Cripes I need my energy for labor and this was taking its toll. So they took it out Again and saw little change. They sent me home and told me to come back for Sunday and they would try again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am tired and sore and cranky to say the least..Baby is juts not ready.....Anyway...I wanted to say that anyone out there who is told they will be induced.Make sure you ask

1)What are my options? Natural:Sex,ankle massage, nipple stimulation etc.Drugs, scraping etc.
2) What are the possible outcomes of each and what are the alternative if the first option does not work.
3)What are the situational factors..Some induction methods you can go home, some you cannot. the cervidel you cannot be out of hospital as it can have complications and need to be monitored so home is not an option....
4)Confirm with the doctors, the difference between cramps and contractions.I got several different responses to my cramps and was  a tad confused as to what to look for..
Anyway. I am still with child and we will have to wait and see what happens now but I strongly advice anyone who has been told what they need Tobe induced, please, save yourself confusion, time and pain and make sure you know what to expect. If I knew what to expect after the first induction option I may have been able to avoid discomforts and feel less stressed if I knew what might happen....Anyway, thanks for the responses and I hope this post helps ANYONE who may have induction as part of their pregnancy. Be well..

Sorry for the typos.  I'm using an iPad which has a terrible autocorrect feature and changes worse on me without me always noticing,

I have had 2 inductions.  The first one was cytotec(sp?) pills were inserted by my cervix.  All that did was make me have horrible cramps and didnt do much at all. That was at the hospital at 430 pm. They went to pitocin after that the next day at 7 am.  After labor all day, I finally had him at 730pm.  My second I was dialated to a 5 for a week.  They induced me because I was so miserable.  It took about an hour with pitocin and my son was born.

why are they inducing you? induction before your body and your baby are ready can lead to much harder labors and greatly increases your chances of needing a csection.
unless the baby was in distress i would (and am) waiting to go into labor on my own.

I think it depends on the person. I was induced at the hospital. I came in early in the morning, and was started on pitocin, then a few hours later, my doctor broke my water, and my DD was born that afternoon. Best of luck with everything!

I was supposed to be induced... except that when I went to the hospital, doctors realized I was already in labor (I had not felt the contractions at all), my baby was in distress and I ended up with an emergency C-section. I had planned on spending the night in labor but this did not happen.

Fortunately this is generally not the outcome of an induction and I hope yours goes as planned!
