Sleeping positions....

I am really having trouble sleeping these days.  I am sleeping on my side (my right, I just can't do my left side), pillow between legs and am waking up several times a night.  I am up before the alarm (this is something new for me..lol).  I just can't get comfy.  I have tried a body pillow in behind my back for support, and also have tried that wedge pillow under my tummy...none of these seem to work at this point.  I am having a fair amount of back pain and am going to start regular massage (OB recommended) next week to help. It's sort of expected with my body type as the baby gets bigger, so we were ready for it.  Any suggestions?  It is starting to affect me as I am just not getting the amount of sleep I need.  I don't think it helps that my little guy seems to be a bit of a nightowl and gets really busy in there around 10pm.  Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully accepted!

I was too having back pain, the C shape body pillow worked a little bit, but the exercise ball is what alleviated a lot of the lower back pain I was having.  Now at 33 weeks sleep deprivation seems to be trying to come back.  Hubby is rubbing my back until I fall asleep.  It works, I'm sleeping until I have my regular run to the bathroom to pee in the middle of the night ritual.  But I'm falling back to sleep, once he does his rub my back routine.

The Snoogle is AWESOME! I didn't like it until my third trimester but I couldn't sleep without it! I actually took Dramamine at night per my OB when I just couldn't get to sleep and that actually worked really well. My OB said it is even safer than Tylenol so who knows?!?!?!

I used a snoozer pregnancy full body pillow (a little expensive) but well worth it for me.  I was finally able to get some good night sleeps after I purchased mine.

Thanks all.  I actually have the wedge pillow but it really doesn't do anything for me.  I really appreciate the suggestion though.  I ran out to Babies' R Us' and bought something a friend recommended called Snoogles.  Its a body pillow but in the shape of a C.  It looks so comfy and I am really hoping it works.  The lack of sleep is really getting to me...I am not the easiest person to deal with...lol.    I am also going to start taking warm baths at night.  I seem to fall asleep ok, it's just that I wake up so often that I know I am not getting into a really deep sleep.  And I am up by 5:30 latest.  It used to be hitting snooze several times in the am...not now.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.  Sounds like this is a common issue for many of us.  I think I am going to go buy a recliner.

Oh- so sorry you are going thru this- I used to get terrible night leg cramps- ouch. People suggested chamomile tea- but it didmt really help.

The wedge pillow also helped me. (Here are some:http://www.target.com/s/176-0844557-7401315?_encoding=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&keywords=Pregnancy%20Wedge%20Pillow&searchSize=30&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=1038576&AFID=yahoosspslp&searchPage=1&searchRank=relevancerank&LNM=Pregnancy%20Wedge%20Pillow) I know you said it didn't help.

Hmm- take a nice long bath before bed- get some comfy new jammas- read and then try?? Oh- and get hubby to give you a massage before bed- heehee.

Wish I could help more. :)

You know, Amanda, when I was pregnant with Garrett I had those problems...I ended up sleeping in a really comfy recliner starting at about seven months. With Ian, I had one of those wedge pillows for under your back that kind of make you sleep on an incline...I slept on that with another pillow under my knees. It took some getting used to...but once I was used to it, I slept well. Just a couple suggestions...

I have same problem as yours... I am having trouble of sleeping at night because sleeping on left or right side bother me... I have back pain.  There is nothing for me to do to make myself comfortable... only way help me sleep if i sleep on my back.. but of course it's will hurt my back... body pillow or pillow under my legs won't help either... I guess we have to suffer until the baby is born.. :-(  but it is worth it ....

I remember those days.  With your first baby everything is stretching out to accomodate your growing baby and I even remember being in pain and feeling out in the lower back and hip area for a while and I did exactly what everyone has already suggested, which did help.  I also took lots of warm baths and drank warm milk before bed to help relax me and my muscles.  Massage is an excellent idea.  GOD BLESS.

I also have no suggestions but I really think all the problems sleeping are to prepare you for what is to come!!  Not only did I have problems getting comfy when I was pregnant, I would also just wake up at like 4am - wide awake and unable to fall back asleep!  I remember one time I started doing laundry in the middle of the night!!  It's all just mother natures plan to get you used to staying up at all hours of the night when baby is born!  I think I literally went for well over a year without sleeping 8h straight!!  But don't worry, you won't care when your holding that sweet baby boy!!  Best of luck, so happy to see things are going so well!!!

i hear ya there! i havent gotten good sleep in weeks! once i do get to sleep, i wake up hurting - one thing i figured out this week, after waking up with contractions and bad back pain was if i double the pillow between my knees it really helped the back and pelvic pain... otherwise i wake up and get up and walk to the bathroom even if i dont have to go just to get up and get off my side for a bit.. GOOD LUCK! : )

With my son I ended up sleeping in a recliner toward the end of my pregnancy. It was the only way I could get comfortable enough to get any sleep at all. He was also quite active at night, but when I was sleeping almost upright, it didn't bother me as much when I tried to sleep.

I have no solution for you - or else I never found one, the only thing that got rid of the back, leg numbness from sleeping on one side or another was delivery :-O(.   I just wanted to let you know that's normal unfortunately. Good Luck

Oh actually I did find one thing that helped me because I would wake up with leg numbness from sleeping on one side or another.  I started sleeping on the counch almost upright and also with pillows under my legs.... the things we do for our kids :-O)
