4mm NT Scan 35 yo…1 in 5 chance??!!!

I was told by my doctor today that my results from my Nuchal Translucency Scan showed that I would have a 1 in 5 chance for DS, based on my age (35) and the fact my scan showed up 4mm fluid. I never had the blood test to back this up however as my bloods were misplaced, or taken incorrectly, so doctor basing decision on scan alone. It was too late for me to take another Nuchal Trans test as I did the initial one at 13 weeks day 6. So I decided to just wait for the anomaly scan and see how that one would go. I am now 22 weeks and had my anomaly scan last week which showed everything to be totally fine and "normal", baby was declared healthy! I figured this was enough to feel rest assured, that was until I showed my usual doctors the results (I did this scan privately as I wanted to be sure) Doctor from the NHS said the anomaly scan doesn't show up any DS risks, and that it does not suggest baby will not have DS, she is now recommending the Amnio test but I am too nervous, and do not like the potential miscarriage risks. I just think 1 out of 5 is HUGE compared to many other cases I've read about, considering it was only 4mm and they never took my bloods? I am now very frustrated and confused…anyone have the same results from a doctor, what did you do? What do you recommend? What were the outcomes? Just need some insight….thanks (:

Would the results of an amino change anything?  If your results came back positive what would that do for you. Yes you would have an answer. If you plan to carry out your pregnancy either way, I wouldn't worry about it. I would research Specalist just in case they are needed. You can contact them after the birth. Try and enjoy being pregnant and not worry about something you can't change. If you just have to know talk with your ob about a second blood test. I know an amino is a pretty common procedure but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. If you do decide to have an amino, remember your doctor has done this many times. If you follow the post procedure directions you will be fine.

I am only 21 and when I was 12 weeks pregnant I had the same issue I had a nuchal reading of 2.6mm and that went up to 4.6mm by 14 weeks which they didn't give me much hope .. I decided to have a amino it scared me so much but I had to know what I was facing .. results came back clear but thxey told me there was still a risk of Noonan syndrome and they wouldn't know for sure till my baby was born .. I worried throughout my whole pregnancy .. I had no happy momentv in my pregnancy .. the day I went in for my induction I was so scared I didn't know what to expect .. I had a hundred questions like was my baby going to have something wrong .. it just ruined the whole expereice .. on the 17th of June at 9pm I have birth to the most beautiful baby girl and she weighed 9ibs 4oz.. I was so relieved but so angry that my pregnancy was over and I didn't enjoy it and also so angry that I risked my beautiful babies life with a amino and she was fine .. because of all this I went into major post natal depression and only now recovering .. my whole pregnancy all had a part of me developing post natal depression .. it turned out that my baby was just a big baby and it threw off the reading .. please think hard about your decision and whatever u do don't let it ruin your pregnancy .. the chances are your baby will perfect like mine was .. I wish u the best of luck and hope my story has giving u some reassurence ..
