progesterone

I am going through my 2nd miscarriage.  First was in August and now.  I will be 36 next month.  The "ache" inside is hard right now and trying to search for an answer. Both babies developed till 6 weeks  and the miscarriages seem to come weeks later. I came across this forum -  and wondered how do the doctors determine if you should be progesterone?

Hi...
I am so sorry for your loss....I too have had 2 miscarriages..One in April I was 6 weeks and 47 days and another in June I was only 5 weeks and  days....

When I got pregnant in October my doctor put me on progesterone right away as soon as he confirmed I was pregnant my levels were 21 well within range but as mentioned above it does not harm the baby so we were being cautious...I am now 12 weeks and 3 days...So in my heart I know that I lost 2 babies due to my progesterone dropping early on?

Good luck to you

Hi, Im very sorry for your loss.. I too have had 1 MC last yr. This Yr I have had 3 I guess what you call chemical pregnancy's  My RE said they usually dont put women on progesteone until they have had 2 MC or more.. Im like uhh i have had 4 . Or they will put you on it if your levels are low.... I think Doc's will put you on it rt when you start to Ovulate .. Dont quote me ,but I think thats what they do...  I think I only had my checked once. I just had my chromosomes cked along with my Dh they all came back OK. Next I will be having a biopsy on my uterus to see if I can even carry a baby.. Dont give up . Lord willing we will get our little bundle of joy. Only in God's time not ours.. that's the way I think... Gold Bless you, and yours.... SSBD to you...... keep us posted..Mary....

I had the same experience 2 miscarriage, one at 6 weeks and 4 days and one about 8 weeks. My doctor told me that miscarriage so early is usually due to something wrong with the embryo (genetically speaking), but they can't be sure. I think there is a test they can do to see why you had a miscarriage  but I think it can be done only if you have a D&C (and you have to pay for).

About progesterone, You can ask your doctor to have blood work every few days next time that you get pregnant to check your hormones level.

About me after the second miscarriage my doctor suggested to go to a fertility clinic to see what was going on. And I end up to have IVF. To make it simple, according to them my miscarriages where due to the lack of quality of my eggs. For other reasons I couldn't do IUI so I only had the IVF option.

Good luck, and try to stay positive, I wish you an healthy 9 months pregnancy in 2011.

I am so sorry for your losses. I too have have suffered 2 losses this year and know how you feel. I believe the doctors can do bloodwork to test your levels. I know alot of people just ask to be put on it as it doesn't harm the baby. I am on it as my pregnancies are from ivf's and because they manipulate your hormones I need to be on it. Maybe ask you dr about it and see if it is an option for you? Have you had any other testing done yet?
