Low HCG & Progesteron

I just found out I am 4w5d pregnant after having a tubal reversal on April 21, 2008.  I went to my doc. on Monday at 4w3d for Beta and results showed HCG of 29.5 and Prog. at 9.something. They stated that prog. was low and put me on the suppositories.  I went today for a follow-up and HCG was at 53.4 (not doubled). They did not check the prog. again b/c they said the suppositories would correct the problem.  It seems like the HCG is low, in addition to the fact that it did not double in the two day time frame. They cautioned me that pregnancy may be ectopic, but we would have to wait and see what blood test shows in 2 days. I am so upset by this news, but would like some opinions of "experts by experiences." I am now prepared for the worst, but praying for good news. Thanks.

I had an ectopic in november of '06 and went in for emergency surgey.  I had low progesterone of lower than 5.  which I believe is typical.  I also had severe dizziness which I later found out is another sign.  good luck my prayers are with you..  Dana

I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're having to go through this & am so sorry for your loss.  I hope the methotrexate works soon so you can continue on your ttc journey.  Good luck and SSBD!

Well, if anybody runs across this looking for info on low levels...I did have an ectopic pregnancy and had the methotrexate shots yesterday. Low and not doubling HCG levels are obviously NOT a good sign - especially when progesterone is low too.  After I posted the original question, my number two days later was only at 73.3, then 267 two days later, and last at 718 four days later.  The 718 was at 6 weeks, no where near where it should have been. A transvaginal ultrasound revealed what the dr. said was probably a blood clot in my uterus with blood swishing around and a sac in my right fallopian tube very close to the ovary. He could not say for certain that it was the fetal sac, but he could say that the pregnancy was not viable. This is a hard thing to deal with emotionally, and you don't feel very good physically either. My heart goes out to anyone else that ever has to go through this.

Its so hard to say at this point as you are so early in your pregnancy.  I agree completely with everything Helen and Kelly had to say....its one of those unfortunate waiting things, and thats so hard.  I too am sorry you are going through such a stressful time, but know we are here for you.

Hang in there, and take good care.  Best wishes to you...

Thanks for the support. It will be extremely hard to "wait & see." But I really appreciate your comment.

I am so very sorry you are going through this.  Low and slow rising hcg may be a sign of ectopic and I am glad your dr is monitoring you closely.  Without another blood test is difficult to say what's going on.  If your hcg goes up by a lot you may be OK.  If your hcg goes down then it is probably a chemical.  If your hcg keeps going up slowly your dr will be watching out for ectopic.
I know how painful waiting is but there is no other way.
Hang in there!!!
