lpd defect

I have been diagnosed w/ luteal phase def. defect due to low progesterone.  Has anyone else used progesterone suppositories and if so did you have any side effects like itching.

I have never used progesterone suppositories, but I did use them orally with no negative side effects (except had to stop them in order to get my period).  I know some Dr.'s will also use clomid to extend the luteal phase.  Good luck to you!

Thanks for the response...back when I was finally diagnosed w/lpd in dec the doc started me on prog supp in jan..1st month on supp no prob 2nd month I started with bed itching..he said I had no infection told me to keep using them and he would order me the pills for the next round in mar I conceived on the supp and switched in the middle of may to the pills...my progesterone starfted dropping on the pills and then miscarriec in may :(  he told me whe we started again to try the supp again.  Yesterday was my 1st dose in months and now the itching is coming back.  I'm afraid to go back on pills because I'm afraid they don't work the same for me...I don't know.  :{

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  I also have a lpd and used the suppositories for two pregnancies.  They caused me to have what felt like yeast infections both times, I assumed due to the constant moisture.  What helped the second time was to increase the doseage within each supp.  The first time I was using 2 50's twice a day; this time I used 1 100 twice a day which was much less messy.  Since they were made specifically for me at a compounding pharmacy they could make them at whatever doseage was required.
I still dealt with the yeast infection until 12+ weeks... I took a lot of probiotics and a homeopathic yeast remedy which kept it at a managable level.  As soon as I stopped the suppositories I used an over the counter yeast remedy which cleared it up (I think I had to do it twice though.)  The midwife said I could use the yeast medication at the same time as the progesterone, but I didn't want to take any risk of the progesterone being blocked from doing its thing.
Best wishes!

Thank you for the reply...in glad to know I'm not crazy...I've noticed I have some days that are more tolerable than others...on the bad days I take a long relaxing bath.  I'm using 1 100mg supp at bedtime so the following morning I never know what to expect.  Ususally by the end of the day when I'm really starting to feel ok its time for another one....but I'm glad to here of you success with them...so I will do my best to cope in hopes of becoming pregnant.  :)
