The RE can't believe his eyes, he's never seen this before, he thinks something is wrong with this pregnancy but he said he could be wrong, I am going into the city to monitor directly with the clinic. just to make sure. I may be totally wrong on this but I think I remember reading that ectopic simply means any implantation outside of the uterus and that sometimes the fetus can implant in some strange places besides the tubes - this may be what you RE is worried about.  However, I don't think your beta's would be doubling so nicely now if that was the case.  My bet is that you have a sticky bean in there.  Hang in there - I know that this roller coaster is not easy!

Do you have any symptoms that could indicate an ectopic pregnancy: pain on one side, pain in the back, pain in a shoulder, bleeding, cramping?? If not, probably not that!

Good luck for Monday!!

So they doubled again?  That is great news!  This is all so perplexing, but your beta's are rising, no bleeding or spotting and honestly..how on earth do you get etopic through IVF.  I am also feeling pretty positive about this now.  I cannot wait to hear about your ultrasound on monday.

You know, I remember about 3 years ago or so, there was a women here who was diagnosed with blighted ovum.  She refused a D&C, preferring nature take it's course.  Her beta's actually fell a bit if I remember correctly.  Anyway, that blighted ovum's name is McKenzie (I cannot remember the members name) and must be at least 2 now.  She is older then my son anyway.  So things do happen, and the body sometimes does odd things.  I want this for you so badly, and am just going to have to keep everything crossed until that ultrasound monday.  I'm so glad they are doing that...that should get you some more definitive answers.

Thanks so much. I don't know how it could be ectopic either. But I guess the dr knows. He did say that there is a chance and ultrasound will determine that. If it's not ectopic then we just have to wait it out just like all us AMA 's

This is such a rollercoaster Melanie. I will keep reading your updates. How can it be an ectopic if you did IVF? The tubes are bypassed entirely, aren't they? Sounds really wierd. If this turns out to be a chemical, or early miscarriage and by this time, I am really sorry though I think you are too far along to be calling this a Chemical. I had a chemical (early early miscarriage) in May and there is no reason to believe you cant go on to have a healthy pregnancy. My Dr doesn't seem concerned. Keep us up to date.. hope the little bean sticks!

It is truly sad what Mel is going thru & certainly very difficult.  I also had a blighted Ovum which is what I thought/think it is.  I believe if it truly was tubal, they would want to remove it right away to prevent damage to the tube.

Mel, I hope you get your miracle.

What a roller coaster you're having!! It would be pretty rare that a lad makes mistake.

This is not a chemical pregnancy, you would already have bled, and I really don't know how it could be an ectopic with an IVF. The only bad thing it could be is a blighted ovum. I had one once and the only symptom I had was severe stomach pain here and there, no blood.

But hopefully everything is OK! For comparison my HCG was 203 at barely 5 weeks in my current pregnancy, so if the lab did not make a mistake, I think your chances are very good!

It's so perplexing.  With the initial blood tests, I would have thought chemical as well.  But I have had several chemicals, and every single time I would be spotting or bleeding with the slow rising, peaking then lowering of hcg levels.  Meaning by the point you are at for sure.  And in all honesty, even though the range of levels is huge, 283 is low for almost 6 weeks.  But it's going up.  I don't know, it's perplexing for sure.  It isn't like any chemical pregnancy I have ever had, and I don't see how it can be etopic with IVF..that doesn't make any sense at all (even with my extremely limited knowledge of IVF).

I have heard of very slow rising of hcg levels initally and then all was well.  But at 6 weeks, I do not understand why they are not just doing an ultrasound.

You do deserve a miracle.  Don't give up hope yet.  I would be prepared for the worst, but still hoping for the best.  I think anything could happen right now.    For some reason I keep wondering about a vanishing twin, but not sure if it could impact things quite this way.  I just don't know.
