43 and 11 months wanting to get pregnant after tubal

Hi, I am really new to all this, Im almost 44 and my husband of 9 years decided he is ready to be a father...I have two in college and one in High school...I had a tubal 14 years ago....He has no children....I just wish he was ready 5 years ago...the truth is we didn't have the money until now....so we had the tests for my FSH and was told all was normal and I am fertile but MY eggs are questionable because of my age...We have a 10-15% chance of conceiving....Anyone been in my position using their own eggs?  Any advice?
Thanks

Hi all. My wife is 47, We have been married for 23 years. Got two children age 22 and 19.  After the second child we decided to have the tubes tied.   That was 19 years ago. Well last year we went for tubal reversal and found out my wife had abnormal fallopian tubes after the reversal. After 9 months TTC nothing happened. In early July this year we decided to look into ivf.  The timing was great. The ivf began straight away.  We found a donor and the treatment began.  Our donor gas us 19 eggs, 15 fertilized, and 10 left after 3 days. 2 embryos were transferred on 06/08/2011 and 8 were frozen.  We are now on 19/08/2011. 13 days after transfer and my wife has had 5 pregnancy tests. All have shown pregnant,  The last shows 3+ with clearblue. We advised the clinic and they said the results could be incorrect and we will have to wait until the 20/08. Does anyone know if the tests could wrong and show a false result. The total cost for the ivf treatment was $18000.   Would lover to hear from people as we are unsure of the results.    Ps. I'm doing all the legwork as I think you girls have enough to worry about.

Your good FSH levels mean you have a relatively large number of eggs left, so you may very well get pregnant with or without ivf.  But your age will make a lot of those eggs of poor quality, so you will unfortunately have a high chance of miscarrying.  (I had an easy time getting pregnant at 45, but then I lost 3 pregnancies in a row, so I finally switched to donor eggs.)  If money is a concern, you'll have a much better chance of success with donor ivf than ivf with your own eggs.  Costs of donor egg programs vary widely, but you should be able to do one donor cycle for about the same or even less money than two ivf cycles using your own eggs (unless you have insurance coverage for ivf with your own eggs).  Donor egg ivf success rates can be as high as 80%.  I hope things work out for you!

I am only 33 - however I had my tubes tied 6 years ago.  New Hubby had no children so we were given the option of IVF or attempt to untie tubes.  We went with IVF - I had a good stimulation and was able to get 25 eggs - which 21 were mature and 19 fertilized... We worked with them through a fresh cycle that failed and a frozen cycle.. I have 4 left frozen and am preggers with 1 baby - 24 weeks along.  It only takes ONE good embryo .... If I were you, I would research a good RE (reproductive endocrinologist) and have a consultation.. they will run a battery of tests and see if you eggs are good- I wish you all the luck in the world!

Let me help you out with some of the abbreviations.

DH = darling husband
SSBD = super sticky baby dust
BFP = big fat positive (on your pregnancy test)

A tough decision no doubt about it.  All I can say is that if I was in your position, and a baby was what I really wanted, I would probably give it a try. In fact I know I would. One other possibility is donor embryo's or adopted embryo's.  I don't know a lot about it as it's a tough thing to do in Canada (we have some bizarre laws around donor eggs and embryo's), but a few women here have told me that it is much cheaper to adopt an embryo then to do donor eggs.  Again, I don't know this first hand, but the ladies over on the fertility forum might be able to help you out.  I really do wish you luck and I hope things work out the way you want them to.  Take care, and please update us when you can.  I know most of us like to hear how things work out, and it might help someone else as well.  Good luck and all the best!!!

I wish i knew what all the abbreviations mean. My problem is I don't have the money for donor eggs or more than one or two ivfs, so I'm not sure it will be worth it...my fsh was 8.5 the first time...but i am 44.  I never had any problem getting pregnant but i don't know if that gives me a better chance?  My Maternal great grandmother had my grandmother at 45 and my mother had my brother at 39 and my husbands mother had him at 44....Yikes what a woman to do?

I am 41 and just had my first baby 11 weeks ago.  I did have several miscarriages prior to conceiving him and although testing turned up no reason, most Dr.'s seem to feel it was due to old eggs.  The reality is that as our eggs get older, it is tougher.  I conceived very easily so no problem with fertility, just with first trimester miscarriage.  My reason for telling you this is perhaps you may also want to look into the possibility of donor eggs.  It really is a personal decision, and no matter how you attempt to do this, I think you should go for it!!  I think it is so great that we live in a time where we have so many options available to us.  I wish you all the best!!

I haven't been in your position, but I know there are many women who have. If you have the money for several IVF attempts, my opinion is that you should try and see how many good embryos you can get. If you're unsuccessful, I would think you could easily carry a pregnancy with donor eggs. Good luck!
