When is the 1st day of period?spotty,light,heavy?

I have abnormal periods every 21 days and approx. 8 days long. It begins with spotting 3 to 4 days before I get a full heavy period for about another 3 days. Its a pain!  I noticed my tracker does not consider CD1 of my period when I begin spotting!  It considers CD1 to be the first day I become light or heavy. Im confused?  What do you think?

I've always heard basically the "flow" also. If it counted spotting, I'd have my period 30 days out of the month, lol.

hi well my female dr said its from the flow and my male dr said it starts from the spotting lol so omg if they have different views then who knows
