Empty yolk sac

Hi I had an u/s today (I'm 5 weeks) and there's a sac but the tech couldn't see anything inside.  The doctor told me the sac is apparently empty.  She told me to repeat an u/s next Tuesday, and if by that time there is no signs of a fetus is that its an empty sac.  If next Tuesday there is no visible fetus, should I tell my doctor to wait another week, and repeat an u/s? or an empty sac in a 6 week pregnancy means there is no fetus at all?

I am so sorry.  I have been through this myself, and I know how hard this can be.  Some OB's say 1 cycle, others say 2 or 3.  The bleeding you will experience tomorrow is not a period.  You will have some bleeding and spotting for a few days afterward, then when you get your actual period, it counts as the first.  In my case, it was about 5 weeks later.  I wish you well tomorrow, and will keep you in my thoughts.

Hi!
Did the u/s today...and the sac stills empty.  Tomorrow morning I have to go to my ob/gyn office to have a procedure to "clean" my uterus.  I'm very sad, but she told me tha in 2 periods I can try again.  Tomorrow I have to ask her if I count tomorrow as first period, anyone knows???
Thanks for your support!!!!

Sorry about this waiting game. My personal experience is first they see a gestational sac (5 weeks-ish). Then a nutrient sack. Then a fetal pole. Then the hearbeat around 6-7 weeks. I agree with adgal. If it is empty, your body will do what it needs to do. There is no rush except your ability to wait and see. We are all here for you.

I am also so sorry you are going through such a stressful time.  In all honesty, you need to do what feels right to you.  In addition to the ultrasound, you could request 2 bloodtests, about 48-72 hours apart.  If your HCG levels have either not doubled (or close to doubled) or have actually decreased, then that combined with an empty sac is a fairly sure sign of a non viable pregnancy.  However, if in doubt, there is no harm in waiting and requesting the test once more.  There is no absolute panic in making a decision, and in all honesty, if this is non viable, chances are your body will do what it needs to do.  I will be honest, if in a week, the sac is still empty, it is not a good sign. Should that be the case, please know we are here to support you.  Take care, and my thoughts are with you.  Amanda

Hi, I am so sorry you are going through this. I would wait for the next u/s and take it from there. I know the waiting game is so hard but don't get ahead of yourself. It's good to try and prepare yourself but try to stay positive (easier said than done). Let us know what happens next week, I'm hoping you have great news to share.
