I Do Not have Health Insurance and am 6-8wks Pregnant?

My first day of my last period was Oct. 20th...I tested myself 1wk -10 days after I was toget my period in Nov., the test was negative...I re-tested Dec 16th and 2 pregnancy tests were positive...I'm 42 and have had two miscarriges in my mid to late thirties..I currently do not have insurance and live in  Northern California...my previous Dr. said it would be $400 to have an ultrasound...which financially I can't afford...My question is I want to have a clearer idea of what week I am and get an ultrasound to see if the pregnancy is healthy...I have contacted many clinics....the wait time is extremely long...and am nervous about another miscarriage?  I whould be getting health insurance by this Feb..if I see any Dr.  prior to getting insurance....will that be considered a pre-existing condition?  Is that leagal with any coverage?

you can look into using a midwife rather than an ob.  i live in cali, and it seems the cost is less than half.  the other perks are better care, most likely a birth that ends they way you want it or even at home!  they also can help with pmt plans better than a drs office.

pregnancy isnt a pre existing condition, think about all the gals here in cali that dont have ins then end up preggers lol.  congrats and try to not worry too much.  many of us have had a mc and went on to have beautiful little babies!

Unfortunately unless your income is really low, you won't get medicaid. I'm preggers and I've done some research about this. If you make good money, you are not considered for it. ***** that we are the ones who end up paying for other people's babies while we can't use it too.

Yes, pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition.  Try to look into the pregnancy medicaid.  I don't know if they offer that in your state but I live in NC and I know that they offer it here.  They will cover everything.  What's good about it is that u can use your one doctors.  Now here in NC I had to get a separate policy for maternity and a regular policy too.  I am originally from NY and in NY everything was covered even maternity but here it's all different.  Good luck & congrats to you.  I hope everything works out.  Keep me posted.  Happy Holidays!!!

If you go by your LMP, you should be 10w4d. Have you tried to get Medicaid? I'm not in Cali, I'm in Florida, but I know when my sister got it when she was pregnant they cannot deny you if you don't have insurance and are pregnant and you will be able to see a doctor right away. Also, if you really want to make sure everything is okay right now without waiting, go to the ER and tell them you have had spotting and cramps, even though you don't. They will check on you and the baby. I know it's not the best way to go about it, but it would ease your worries until you can get to a doctor. And also, you can ask the ER about the Medicaid. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Is there a teaching hospital in your area?  Sometimes they take on patients w/o insurance and no money and they can be very good with patient care.  And yes,  I do believe that any insurance you get after you have had confirmation of preg by doc will consider it preexisting.

I can't really offer any advice as I am not American, but I did want to congratulate you and wish you well.  I too have had multiple miscarriages and am in my early 40's.  I am now 34 weeks pregnant, so even after losses things can go well.  I wish you well.
