I have a sinus infection need advise

by cadforever, Oct 29, 2008 04:54PM
I am 11 weeks and 4 days. I have had a sinus infection for 2 weeks and have taken 1 box of Tylenol cold and sinus, 2 days of Sudafed PE and now have started Claritin all suggested by the Dr. (How can all these meds be okay for the baby?) She refuses to give me an antibiotic stating Dr's will no longer give antibiotic for a sinus infection because it is viral.   I have terrible headaches, face pain, and low grade temps, cannot sleep or seem to get real relief.    I have used a Netti Pot,  Vicks, Steam etc... It keeps coming back. Should I see a different Dr. Or will another just tell me the same thing?   Thanks

Well, antibiotics won't help if its viral, and they can do harm.  My mother took tetracycline when pregnant with me, and I have what they called mottled teeth.  A lot of $$ has had to go into my mouth.  I know that tylenol is ok when pregnant.  I honestly am not sure about the rest.  I have learned that pharmacists seem to know a great deal more about which drugs are safe and which aren't during pregnancy.  Even though these are over the counter, I know my local pharmacist is always happy to help.  I would talk to him/her and see what their thoughts are.

Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Last year when I was pregnant I had a really bad sinus funk for about two weeks. My doctor told me to take Tylenol Cold and Sinus (Severe). Within in a day it was all cleared up. I know there are different types of Tylenol Cold and Sinus, but that one did the trick for me.

Good luck and I hope you are feeling better really soon!!

I am suprised that they have not given you an antibiotic, did they do blood work to determine that it is in fact viral and not bacterial, I was told when I was pregnant, that sudafed PE was not good to take, my RE told me to take regular sudafed, he said the pe can reduce blood flow to the uterus, now.. I am sure each and every doctor is different, so if anyone has any advise feel free to chime in, I too had a sinus infection when I was 13 weeks pregnant, I went to an urgent care as it was on sunday and they put me on amoxicillan

Ditto on the Sudafed PE.  I was told the same thing as babyprayers.

I was going to tell you to use a nasal rinse 2x a day, but you already tried the Netti pot.  That worked for me when I had a bad head cold.

When my friend was pg, she developed bronchitis and was not given antibiotics. Basically, her doctor told her, "yes, this is aweful, but there's not much we can do." She had to put up with it for about a month.

Im at 37 wks and 3 wks ago I took an antibiotic for  sinus infection.  I was MISERABLE.... But at your stage of pregnancy Im not sure if you could take an antibiotic safely or not. You may want to get a 2nd opinion.

I have had constant sinus issues since becoming pregnant and just put up with it because as far as I know it is a symptom of being pregnant!!
