Menstral cycle with 200 HCG

Hello everyone, glad to be joining this forum. After being told since 1994 that I would probably never conceive due to damaged tubes, & after having unsuccessful in-vitro in 2001, I became pregnant at the age of 37 in Jan 10. At 7 weeks, I miscarried and had a D&C on 28 Feb 10. The D&C was uneventful & I felt that I ovulated on 20 March. (I get a very distinct pain when I ovulate). I had a period from 1-8 Apr. At the time that I started my period, my HCG level was still 200. I asked my doctor if this was possible and she said that it was. It is now 2 May 10, and I was expecting another period on/around 28 April. I had all of the premenstrual signs for it (as I did when I got pregnant) but the cramping has stopped, the moodiness/irritability is just as bad as ever.) It has been 9 weeks since my D&C, my HCG is now 42, down from 68 last week. I have been having a soreness around my left ovary that started as a twinge about 27 April. I don't know what to think. Please help if anyone has any experience with having a cycle with your HGC still that high, and if so, was your second cycle on time?  Could I have had a chemical pregnancy? Thank you, Crystal

Yes, I agree. I'm very disappointed with my ob/gyn. I am looking for a specialist now. Since it took me so long to get pregnant, I don't want to waste time not getting answers for these issues. I am going to start calling first thing in the morning to find someone to give me a second opinion. As it stands right now, I'm feeling pregnant again, but I know if I am, it's not a good one since my numbers are still dropping, albeit slowly. I'm in Alabama, anyone here know of any good high-risk ob/gyn's here?

I'm sort of going through the same thing, I found out I was pregnant the first week of April but when I went in for blood work my hcg level was only 55. I had an ectopic pregnancy a year ago and had to do an IUI to get pregnant this time so as soon an my dr saw that number he told me to be aware of another ectopic. Went back two days later and it dropped 10 points so they told me it was probably a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage) and my body would dissolve it. After waiting four more days I had to go back in for bw and my hcg level actually raised 10 points. To make a long story short, I have had three shots of methotrexate (one was a double dose) and my level keeps getting higher, up to 100. If it hasnt gone down by Monday they will do a MRI to see where it is and what to do next.

The day before my D&C, my HCG was only 2300.  It had started to drop, but don't know what my highest was. After D&C, it went down to about 800. It was going down byabout 200 a week until I hit 269, then the next week 203, which is when I began my period. Since then (April 1st) it went to 141, then I skipped bloodwork for a week, so it took 2 weeks to go down to 61, then this past week 42.

Not sure what's going on with you but surprised to see that your ob-gyn is not more proactive. You may still have some pregnancy tissue in your uterus and maybe you should have a second D&C to make sure everything has been removed - 9 weeks and still some positive hcg is too long!

I have heard that right after a miscarriage the body ovulates.  It could be that since your levels are getting lower you may be ovulating again and that is where the twinge is coming from.  I am not sure why it would have taken that long for your HCG levels to have come down.  Did they check them after the D&C?  If so was it normal?  If it was than it is possible that you may have had a chemical pregnancy.  I hope everything works out ok for you.  Good luck.
