Trying!

Hi all!

I had surgery about a month ago to remove ovarian cysts and endometriosis. I was told that my endometriosis was stage three. I also had to have my left fallopian tube removed. I have both ovaries and one tube. I have a six year old son that I conceived very easily. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 3 years now. My doctor told me that now that my surgery is complete he is hopeful. He wants me to do IVF right away because I am going to be 36 soon. The cost is outrageous and I just don't know that I want to put my body thru all of that. I would like to try IUI first. Does anyone out there have any advice or gone thru a similar situation. My husband and I really want to have another baby but feel so blessed to have our son. I am just not sure what I want to do!! Thanks for listening!

First of all congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope all goes well. What type of adoption did you do? Was it private? Did you adopt overseas? I actually have been thinking a lot about adoption, but it seems so expensive and confusing. I would love to hear about your experience.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for all your well wishes and comments. I too agree that 36 is not old. It is nice to hear that from other people. I get tired of hearing all the doctors tell me that I am not getting any younger. Like I don't know that! Hope everyone is doing well! I will keep you updated.

I too would try IUI first.  I agree - 36 is relatively young.  Give IUI's a chance first and if it doesn't work, ask for further testing of your ovarian reserve (or that test could be done first).  Best of luck!!! - jen

I agree, I wouldn't even consider IVF for about a year.  36 is not OLD!!!
I too had lap. done in Nov. 08 I got pregnant 4 weeks later naturally. (@39)  I had my left ovary & left tube removed cuz of a stupid endo cyst & my tube was NASTY!
Anyway, I would try naturally or IUI firs for a few times.  After a good internal wash, you are "fresh" & can get prego easily!
I bet you'll get pregnant real soon!

I wouldn't try the IVF so soon, even though you're 36 that's pretty young for trying to conceive.   You're probably right with attempting IUI first and see how you respond to ovarian stimulating drugs.  They can test you also for your ovarian reserve.  If ovarian reserve isn't great than maybe the IVF...ask about clomid challenge test and/or anti-mullerian (sp?) hormone (this one's better) to test your ovarian reserve.   Godd luck to you.  I don't think IVF is quite that urgent at 36.

I had my tubes tied at 23 then the reverseal done when I was 28, due to scaring on my right tube it became blocked so I only have one useful tube I also had ovarian cysts remove, (4 times) after getting the reversal I found out that my body stop producing progesertone, so I went to a RE for 6 years and tried injectables, with not luck, gave up and adopted 3 boys with my 2nd husband, then 5 years after that I now find myself 35 weeks pregnant with a little boy, so yes it can happen I would opt for the IUI as long as all your levels are good and you ovulate on your own, best of luck to you.
