If what tricia suspects is true, please please talk to you Dr. and get help now. Attempting to handle this yourself and/or even quit yourself can have very negative consequences for you and the baby. Trying to wean yourself or even quit cold turkey can be quite dangerous. While it's true Social Services would probably be notified in this case, I can tell you that they prefer to work with the mother whenever possible. Admitting this is an addiction issue and getting help for it is a big positive. They will always act in what they believe to be in the best interest of the child and even if they take the baby, they would work with you to have you reunited. Please, if this is a substance abuse issue, talk to your Dr. and get help.
hi scaredmom,
i happen to be on the message board and clicked on your name from your post topic by accident....or maybe it wasnt an accident!. by no means am i judging you...but saw you posted the same message on the addiction, substance abuse board as well. maybe it was to get more feedback but something is telling me you are close to your due date and now are very concerned and even worried about social services taking away your baby (thats what you said in so many words). i just cant imagine as a woman being pregnant and on pain meds prescribed by your doctor he or she didnt talk to you about this...especially if they are prescribing it long term. any pharmacy when you pick up the prescription has to let you know the possible side effects. so maybe i am wrong for going with my gut feeling but i think maybe it wasnt prescribed...if thats the case you need to come clean with your doctor...i am pretty positive your baby will be in withdrawal and it will eventually come out. when i had my last son he was in the NICU next to a baby going thru withdrawal from narcotics. social services was there everyday practically interogating the mom. the mom was devastated and the baby wasnt going home with her. just giving you the facts...
Typically they do not remove babies for prescription drugs, providing they were not abused. They will monitor baby for withdrawal and do what is necessary for his/her health. I am sorry you are so stressed out at what should be such a happy time. I am not certain if you were considering this, but please do not just stop taking your meds cold turkey or anything. That can be dangerous for you and the baby. Talk to your Dr. about your fears, I am certain he/she can put your mind to rest. Good luck to you.
hi scaredmom,
was the doctor prescribing the pain meds aware of your pregnancy? was your OB aware of you taking them? if so there should be no problem at all....so i wouldnt worry.
if for some reason your doctor prescribing them didnt know...or you didnt tell the OB i would definately see a problem then.
sorry you are in so much pain...you are almost at the end...hang in there!
wishing you all the best!
Hi Scaredmom, I am so so sorry you are going t hrough a hard time with this pregnancy. You were perscribed those meds fo ra reason, you are not abusing them you are needing them for pain. No, your baby will not be taken away. Depending on how long you have been on hydro and other meds will determine if the baby will have any w/d symptoms. But obviously the DR knew you were prego b4 giving them to you so he must know what he is doing. follow up closely with the DR so he/she can keep an eye on things
Wishing you all the best.
