hcg doubling, progestorone very high but dropped

I have two children.  I've had three miscarriages and I'm pregnant again.  I have been very nervous about lab results because when my hcg was slow to rise, I miscarried.  When it doubled, I had a live birth.  My numbers on Monday 7/14/08 (exactly 5 weeks LMP) were HCG 1400 and progesterone 32.8...very good.  I was tested again exactly 48 hours later on 7/16/08 and my HCG was 2366 but progesterone had dropped nearly 6 points to 26.9.  The nurse said it was still okay because it was well within normal.  I thought both numbers were only supposed to increase.  Is this a sign that I will likely miscarry again?  All the testing brings back bad memeories and I just want to prepare myself and not have false hope that this pregnancy will continue if it is doomed.  I know about hcg from personal experience.  I am not as informed about progesterone.  Your input would be appreiciated.

Thanks.

Progestrone levels do change differently during the first trimester.  If you are 11 or below they will supplement you. There are several of us (myself included) that took supplements to maintain our pregnancies.  And the good thing is you only have to take it til wk 12 when the placenta takes over the production of progestrone.  Congrats!  I wish you well this pregnancy.

You are right about HCGs needing to increase, but I don't think thats necessarily the case with progesterone.  I don't think it increases like HCG"s do.  I also don't know as much about progesterone levels, but I do think yours are within normal range.  I know in my case they put me on progesterone supplements as it was on the low side.  I also am sure they would have told you if it was low, as that is something they can help correct.  I wouldn't worry (although I know what you mean, after losses, thats almost impossible), it does sound like everything is just fine.  Congrats on your pregnancy, and I wish you all the best.
