neww some advice

I just turned 39 years old and 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant and very happy about this.  I went to my doctors for a check up as I am very worried.  I have twins who were born 3 months early (they are both healthy today) and my oldest was born 2 months early and also is healthy.  It was strongly reccommended to get a CVS test due to my age but looking on the internet I see it is a risk.  I am looking for advice from other older mothers' who have had the CVS test or did not and their results.  I really have no one who has been in this situation that I know of who can help me make an educated decision.

Thanks for help in advance.

Hello, and congratulations on your pregnancy!  I became pregnant at 42, and I remember struggling with whether or not to get the CVS test.  I was so worried about the risk of miscarriage, that we decided against it.  I had the 1st trimester screening, then waited for the Level II u/s.  Everything looked great, so I continued on with a very healthy pregnancy, delivering a perfectly healthy little boy full term.  This is a presonal choice, and a hard one at that...I guess the question you need to ask yourself is, if the CVS test results gives you bad news, would you continue on with your pregnancy anyway?  Same with an amnio.  Most Drs immediately suggest getting these invasive tests, mainly because of your advanced maternal age.  Do not be forced to do anything that makes you uncomfortable...most of the women on this forum have been faced in the exact position you're in right now, and some will say they had the tests, others have not.  So, you will get many points of view coming your way!  Whatever you choose to do, I wish you best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy!  Pam

I would not as I am a mom whom opted for a amniocentesis and delivered my son at 18 weeks.  They say it had nothing to do with it but if I didn;t do it I would know it didn;t and the doubt will alwyas be there.  its not worth the risk for me..  I wish I could go back and undo but I can;t and I will never hold my son again../
