Hi,
key thing is to focus on healthy diet, with very nutrious foods than to worry about weight gain specifically...
With my daughter I think I gained about 25 lbs., up to 195 lbs For this one I am now about 34 weeks and have gained about 15 lbs. However I am diabetic and on insulin and have to be very careful with what and how much I eat. My drs. didn't want me to gain more than 15 lbs and I'm afraid I will exceed that by a few lbs.
They say you only need about 200 extra calories a day. Which is not much.
You can afford not to gain weight in the first trimester, but it may be unavoidable in the second and third. As I said, just focus on being healthy and eating healthy foods.
Well, you don't want to not gain any weight. I think I would probably seek the advice of a dietician and your OB. You want to make sure your growing a healthy little one there and taking care of you at the same time. Besides that, stick to lean meats, and lots of fruits and veggies, with less carbs. Other then that, I wouldn't worry to much about it. Congrats again on your pregnancy!
I've ended up all over the map. And started all over the map. It seems seasonal for me. Getting pregnant late spring usually gives me a better outcome. I've had two in Jan. and gained fifteen pounds. Had two in late summer and gained fifty pounds, Had onw in the fall gained a hundred! Had one in spring gained forty. This one's due in fall. Ugggh.
Here is my theory, now mind you it has no scientific data behind it...but it has held true for me through 3 pregnancies.
I think our bodies are pre-programmed to be a certain weight during pregnancy...whether we consistently gain the same amount of weight, or we weigh the same at the end.
I was 118 with my first before pregnancy, I gained 42 pounds and ended up 160 at birth. I was 128 pre-pregnancy with my second, I gained 25 to end up at 162..At 20 weeks with this one I was 135, I started at 130. I will probably end up around 162 again.
I admit I eat fast food, once or twice a week, but usually get a $ menu sandwich, or a wrap, not a big meal with large fries and a drink. I have a good breakfast, usually cereal and fruit, a snack, try to have something like grilled cheese and veggies for lunch, and have protein, veggies and a little bit of starch at dinner. I allow myself ice cream for desert during pregnancy as well.
I have no set exercise regime. I walk my daughter up and down our driveway to the bus every morning and afternoon and take leisurely weekend hikes with the family. I try to get to the mall if it's not nice out and walk around with my toddler.
I know you didn't ask for a novel...sorry. I don't know if I am just lucky, or if I am not eating as much as I think, but when I am hungry I eat. I snack on crackers and cheddar cheese, or yogurt, or nuts...things that will fill me up with less.
