Having a odor issue

I have seen on several websites that lots of women have an odor issue during pregnancy. I have also seen that if the odor is "fishy" that is a sign of infection. It will be 3 months before my insurance will go through, I am about 5 weeks pregnant, I am 35yrs old. This will be my 5th pregnancy, I have never had the odor problem, however I was 27 when I had my last child. Is this normal? It is not a fishy odor, the best way I can describe it is beefy (weird I know). Should I go to the ER? there are no other symptoms such as itch, pain, discharge etc. any advice?

Eat honey 100% pure. Eat a tablespoon day and night and asap you will notice the difference. You won't smell like fish anymore instead you will have a perfumy sent.

With all due respect, if your Mother in Law is an OB/GYN she would be the first one I would contact if you have any concern or issues during your pregnancy.  What are her thoughts about going to an ER prior to your insurance kicking in?  Honestly, I don't mean to be smart, if it were me, I'd get it first hand from an OB/GYN, built right into the family...Good luck!!

Thank you so much for writing! yes what a issue eh lol Well I tend to agree with you Sherri, if it were an infection the odor would be fishy, along with a colorful discharge (not having that). My Mom in law in a OB/GYN, however she lives 6,000 miles away. She says it is normal and not to worry. I just can't get past this is my odor lol really never had this problem before. I will be seeing a doctor anyways, I just wondered should I go to the ER due to lack of insurance. I joined another pregnancy website and I feel it is ok and will pass. Once again thanks for writing, feels good not to be alone.

I think BV smells fishy and there is a discharge associated with it... You should definitely talk to your doctor regardless, but if the smell isn't "bad" and you don't have any unusual discharge, it's probably just due to hormonal changes or something of that nature.  Seriously, I've had the same issue twice and it's never been anything at all.  Just my strange enhanced sense of smell!

Congradulations!!!!!! I am not a doctor, just a pre-med student and mother. But it sounds like you may have an infection called Bacterial Vaginosis BV. This is a common infection,  an imbalance of your normal flora, many women suffer from this. Before 12weeks doctors can't treat it in pregnant women but after that, you can get meds. Either oral of vaginal. Since insurance is a factor, I would try other natural cures. You can find this on earthclinic.com. Hope this helps, a lot of their natural cures have worked for me. Good luck to you and baby!

You're brave for bringing up this topic, but it's a good one.

Ok, this is gross and bizarre, but with my first pregnancy, I thought I smelled like peanut butter down there all the time! LOL!  I had no problems at all with infection, and it actually wasn't an unpleasant thing... it was just peanut buttery!

This pregnancy, I don't care AT ALL for the odor, but nobody else notices it.  It's... just... weird.  Not fishy or anything over the top, but sort of like you describe.  Earthy?  I suppose it's just the hormone change along with the increased discharge.  In my case, my kid keeps squishing my bladder so I suppose I have a little urine issue mixed in there too, but I do my best to just keep the situation as clean as possible and hope nobody else notices!  I totally know what you mean though.  Ick.

First, congratulations on your 5th pregnancy!!!!  My heavens, that in itself deservIs a standing ovation!  I would only be guessing that any type of unusual odor/discharge would prompt me to see my Dr.  It could be anything from your body/hormones adjusting to the pregnancy, to prenatal vitamins, if you're taking them, to something you've been eating/digesting...Would you have to go to an ER because you do not have insurance in place yet, or because you are that concerned?  If it's a matter of not having your insurance in place yet, I would go to the OB of your choice and explain your symptoms, worry about the cost later...most of the time (if the medical profession finds it in their heart : ) )  They could consult you over the phone, or at least work with you to get you the help you need NOW....Best wishes, and best of luck on your 5th!!!  Pam
