I am taking lisinopril and found out that I am pregnant

I am scared because I am taking 10 mg of lisinopril and just found out I am about eight weeks pregnant.  I have done some research and I what I have found is that it can cause birth defects and even death.  Does anyone have any experience with this?

Lisinopril has been assigned to pregnancy category D by the FDA for use during the second and third trimesters and to category C during the first trimester. Animal and human data have revealed evidence of embryolethality and teratogenicity associated with angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Congenital malformations have been reported with the use of ACE inhibitors during the first trimester of pregnancy, while fetal and neonatal toxicity, death, and congenital anomalies have been reported with the use of ACE inhibitors during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. If the patient becomes pregnant, lisinopril should be discontinued as soon as possible. Lisinopril is considered contraindicated during pregnancy.

Your baby should be ok right now. Most damage with those types of medication are USUALLY done in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. BUT you dont need to take that chance . you do need to call your DR asap so he can prescribe something that is considered "safe" during pregnancy. My dr prescribed me Aldoril because it is such an old drug that Dr feel safer with it than the newer prescriptions. It's considered a Class B, which is safer.  I took it during my pregnancy and did fine and my son turned out healthy.  Anyhow, call your dr!
