Vaginal ultrasound at 6 wks and no heart beat

I am 35 years old and found out I am pregnant only recently. I thought I was 5 weeks pregnant but everyone keeps telling me I am 6. I found 4 massive red spots last Friday that set me off in a panic. I called the hospital and they set up a vaginal ultrasound for today. In the meantime I rested and only had brown blood and very faint when I wiped (sorry TMI)
Had the appointment today and there was no heart beat but we did see the sac but no sign of baby as still very small or so the nurse said. I am scheduled for another scan in 2 weeks' time so hopefully all will be well. I had a miscarriage in 2002 so don't really want to go through the same thing. Fingers crossed!

My pregnancy with DS - we didn't see a heart beat until a couple of days after week 7. And we were 100% certain of the dating because he was conceived with IUIs.

Don't give up hope just yet. Good luck!!

Not seeing a heartbeat at 5 or 6 weeks is not abnormal at all.

It is very normal not to see a heartbeat until around week 7.
Hang in there!!!  I know it is hard, but try and relax, unfortunately, the outcome is out of your hands.
I am betting in 2 weeks you get fantastic news!!!

Thank you all so much. We're trying to keep our hopes up but at the same time prepare for any bad news. Best thing is that the bleeding has somehow stopped. I've read so many things online that it made me question things. Hoping for better results in 2 weeks :)

Hoping all goes well for you. I went through similar with my last pregnancy and after the wait and second scan I got the awful news. The waiting between the scans is the hardest part so I really feel for you x

so sorry to hear :(  it is hard especially when you live in a different country so all procedures are alien. Everything is already new and not knowing where to go and who to contact makes it worse. Haven't alerted my family yet as don't want to alarm them

I was going through the same situation as you. I went in at 5 weeks, there wasnt any heartbeat, just bleeding and the baby yolk sac doctor told me to return in two weeks to double check everything, I was scared and out of my mind, waiting. I had everyone praying, since this is my first child and I went through a lot trying to conceive. At week 7 and 1day, I heard my baby heartbeat 147 beats per minute, it was so insanely loud, like he or she was yelling Im here mum, Im ok, im here to stay, tears were just falling from my eyes. I will pray for you that everything will b ok, and that you will have a healthy baby. Have trust in God, and dont give up.

I'm so sorry.  Support each other.  It's not your fault. Something similar happened to us and best outcome was that I'm thankful to realize how strong my relationship is and how well we were able to support each other.

I understand where you are coming from because I'm 35 years old and pregnant at 14 weeks. I have a 2 miscarriage but I have a great high risk doctor now and this time around everything is going well. So I pray that everything will be ok for you too.

Thank you dear! We will probably have to look into something like that if this turns out to be a second miscarriage. Living in a foreign country doesn't make this especially helpful though. Happy to hear about your pregnancy and thank you for your thoughts and prayers

Brown is old.  You are still in the game!  I seriously bled from week 6-16 of my pregnancy.  Red, brown, heavy, light...just about every day.

noy yet. I am in pieces not knowing. We'll know on Monday. The bleeding hasn't stopped. There are good days when there's nothing when I wipe and then other days when I get a brown pastey type of discharge. I have no idea how I am going to wait until Monday. Hopefully we get some good news!

Hoping all the best for you and your little one .
I had a scan after finding out I was pregnant and was devastated when they said no heart beat and he couldn't really even see a sack (the guy was really mean) he was like nothing there good bye. and I was like what??? I mean we had been trying for 11yrs (well gave up after yr 3 when the fertility dr said it was 0% chance of  a baby ever happening) anyways I left crying my face off (I would have been 5-6wks) went back two weeks later and there is a little wee one with a heart beat .. I will keep you in my prayers.
