What if late ovulation?

Hi ladies, I was wondering...If you ovulate later in your cycle, let's say within a few days of when AF is due, would a pregnancy test be accurate if you are only 3 days late? How soon would be the best time to test? I only ask this because I had the really slippery cm 3 days before AF was due and I am now 3 days late but I don't think a test would be accurate. If it continues to be late, how soon would I test?  Thanks for any input you have. I haven't been using OPK for a month now, just going by cm. My cycle is very irregular with my old age...LOL and each month it seems I don't ovulate when expected or I don't ovulate at all. The past few months I have, but doesn't necessarily mean there were any eggs with it. Help, I don't like to sound stupid but I try to cover all my basis. Thanks again!!

If you aren't taking Vitex then I would add that to your natural mix. It is used in infertility (acts like Clomid but natural) and is really great at regulating your hormones and fixing luteal phase defect which is the main cause of a short (less than 10 day) luteal phase.

They say that a luteal phase less than 10 days makes it very unlikely to conceive. If the egg isn't implanted and HCG produced to tell period not to start (takes at least 7 days for implant and two for enough hormones to signal) before your next period is to come then you will have a period and pregnancy won't occur.

Vitex can take up to 6 months to work but it took care of me in three. Google for more information. Good Luck!

Ok ladies, bad news. I didn't have to test because AF is once again toying with me. If you go through the last few posted questions I've had, the same thing is happening...3rd month in a row. Just enough pink to let me know it's here and it doesn't require the use of anything at all. All day yesterday I wore nothing with it and it didn't show anywhere until I went to the bathroom. The only good news is that I must be ovulating regularly now even if there isn't an egg each time. I usually skip a month every 2 months. I've been doing all the natural supplements that are supposed to help with ovulation plus I am taking the prenatal vitamins and the ones with DHA. I just ordered preseed as well and from the 9th thru the 15th (my cycle is 28-31 days) now so I have to cover all the days...I will be very busy...LOL!! Keep your fingers crossed and say prayers. Maybe April will be my month!!!  I love you Ladies...

Sort of a tough question.  But....if you were to ovulate late (which is not all that uncommon, even for those of us with regular cycles), typically after fertilization it takes about 3 - 10 days for implantation (6-7 days being average).  It is only once implantation takes place that your body recognizes it's pregnant and starts to produce HCG.  So even with the most sensitive HPT, I would say you probably would not know you are pregnant (or get a positive) until at least 6 days past ovulation, minimum (and that is again with a super sensative test).  My O has changed lately as well, although apparantly mine is earlier.  I recently learned that in terms of conceiving, it is not that important when you O, but the length of time between O and AF (ok, so that was news to me, so had to share).  I hope this is it for you!!!  Let us know as soon as you test and SSBD by the truckloads to you!!!

Thank God it's not just me...whew!! That takes a load off. Good, I will try a test on April 4th then if AF doesn't show up before than. The 3rd will be a week late but I'll give it the extra day anyway. Also I just ordered preseed because in case I get a BFN I will start using that and see if it helps things along. I've heard so many successful stories with it. Keep your fingers crossed for me.  Thanks for making me feel better, at least now I know it has happened this way for others.  Have a great day!!

The same thing happened to me.  I was using the OPK and it showed I was ovulating 4 days before my period was to begin.  I didn't test until 7 days after the period was to begin and it was positive....but I was wondering the same thing as you.  If I tested sooner I wonder if I would have gotten a positive.
Good Luck!

I can't be on Clomid or anything else for that matter. I've been using natural supplements. Thanks for your response.

Gosh.. this is a complicated one and without detecting the ovulation with the use of an OPK its such a tough question to answer especially if you have irregular cycles and/or anovulatory cycles. I can't answer your question but just wanted to say that your post reads just like what was happening to me prior to having tests and I was put on Clomid to combat all the things you mention. Good luck... I am keeping my fingers crossed
