I had a miscarriage almost two weeks ago. I was six weeks pregnant. I bled rather heavy and passed clots for two days. I am no longer bleeding, but I continue to have lower abdominal cramping and lower back pain. The cramping can be described like mild labor pains or "round ligament" pain (I had this with my first pregnancy). The lower back pain comes and goes and feels like it radiates to my lower abdomen. I would like to think I have a rather high tolerance to pain. I am not one to take pain medication like Advil or Tylenol unless it is continous and quite uncomfortable...today I have taken Advil three times!
I am curious to know if this is "normal" to experience after a miscarriage and if so, how long should I expect it to last.
Your comments would be appreciated!
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Having cramping after a miscarriage is quite normal and is not a typical sign of infection. It is possible you are not quite done yet and may experience some more bleeding as well. If you do develop a fever or smelly discharge, see a Dr. right away, but chances are it's just your body going through the normal process. Next week your Dr. will do an HCG draw and possibly an ultrasound to ensure everything is gone. If the cramping gets really uncomfortable, call him to see him earlier. Again, I am so very sorry and I wish you well.
