ectopic question

Hi Ladies,
Has anyone here ever had an ectopic pregnancy?  If so how long into the pregnancy before you would  feel pain and would it feel like a burning cramping in the pelvis?
Would you feel the pain before a BFP?   Maybe ectopic implantation.
Any info would be welcome.
Lisa

Hi Lisa!

I had an ectopic in october 06 and I didn not know that I was pregnant... cause I had mild bleeding which I thought was a peculiar period, different than usual but bleeding none the less... but at 9 weeks, I was buckled over in pain but I still didn't think anything, I kept taking tylenol which took the edge off... finally, my husband came back from abroad and saw me and took me to the emergency immediatly, we thought that my appendicitis was rupturing but wouldn't you know, pregnancy test came back positive, the nurse said "congratulations, you're pregnant!" I was surprised but very thrilled, then she came back a few minutes later and said: "I shouldn't have said that, your paint might be related to this so it might not be a good thing..."

If you suspect an ectopic, no matter what anyone tells you, insist on getting a Beta HCG to check you hormonal levels, they take one blood sample and then take another one 48 hours later. If the numbers indicate a pregnancy but don't double, this could be an indication. If you're not pregnant, then the result of your 1st (and only) beta HCG will come back less than 5 and that will be the end of the story.

Good luck! Remember to follow your gut feeling! You are your own advocate; no one knows your body like you do.

ps I wish I had done something earlier cause my ectopic left with with 1 scarred fallopian tube and a 1 week stay in the hospital with emergency operation and the whole nince yards. I almost died and getting pregnant has been very difficult since then.

with my ectopic I had severe dizziness which is  a sign,  a progesterone level under 5 hcg levels that did not double and severe left abdominal pain that I could not even stand with.  I lost my right tube in october 06 and went on to get pregnant with number 4 1 month later.  i delivered him healthy in september of 07.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in Feb of 2005. I went to the doctor on the 3rd they did a pregn test which came back postivie the next day I started cramping so bad in my back that I couldn't sit at my work desk.  I went to the ER and found that I was pregn in my tube and I was also internal bleeding.  I ended up losing my lft tube.  It was the worst thing I had ever gone through.

Wow I am surprised at what I read above^

I felt pain right away. I got pregnant with my ectopic pregnancy in August. I did not have sex in July and the only day I had sex in August was on August 26. By Sept 2 I got my period (or so I thought) and felt pain within 2 days. By Sept 19 the pain got so bad I went to the hospital. They tried treating it with methotrexate and it did not work at all. My right tube rupsured and I had to have surgury to remove it on Oct 8.

Well if it is ectopic pregnancy the pain will get worst and worst.......well it did for me anyway.

But then again my good pregnancy felt just like my ectopic in the beginning.

Hi, I had an ectopic in June of this year. For me, I had some normal pregnancy-type symptoms but also had pretty bad menstral-like cramps with constant lower back pain.  I only got to 6 weeks because I was being monitored closely by my dr. and they caught it early. The first clue for my dr that something was wrong was my low, slow rising HCG levels.  I had the metho shot to terminate and after that I had some horrible abdominal pains and it felt like my cervix was on fire and going to fall out (that's the best way I know how to describe the pain I felt).

Lisa- I too had an eptopic pregnancy May 07. I was 7.5 weeks. My symptoms were just like you describe only LOTS worse. It started out as bad cramping and then progressed so bad that I could not even stand properly. I must note that I did have a ruptured cyst too and was bleeding internally so I'm not exactly sure if the pain was coming from the EP or the ruptured cyst. As you may know.. i got pregnant again in Aug 07 and had my little guy May 8, 08!

Good Luck to you!

I had an ectopic in May '07.  It was found at my routine 8 week ultrasound.  The only pain I had was some minor back pain and sharp pains off an on on my right side.  Not knowing anything about ectopic preg. though, I just chalked it up to "growing pains."  Luckily it was found at the routine ultrasound and I was treated with methotrexate.  I am 22 weeks pregnant now and due with baby #2 in March '09.
