With this pregnancy I have lightened up on my exercise only because I miscarried before in October of last year. So for the first trimester I took a very light approach and only walked. Now that I am well into my 2nd trimester I am using an elliptical but not overdoing myself. It certainly does help increase my energy and helps with leg cramps too.
I swam a lot during my first pregnancy but this time around, swimming worsens the symptoms of SPD and so I switched to walking. So far, it seems to help reduce backache and increase overall energy. Good luck!
Thanks for all the info ladies, and for asking the question. I was working out for a cpl of mos b4 the preg because i was trying to look good on my honeymoon. I use the eliptical mostly and had just started doing Taebo (kicked my butt). I had bought 3 bikini's the day b4 i found out. Funny thing is, i ended up constipated and not going for 6 days while in Cancun last week so my stomach was all bloated, instead of the flat stomach i had worked so hard for, of coarse. :) I haven't exercised since we came back on sun because i have to work open to close for the next week and a half, but was really wanting to make sure it was safe. So, thank you again. I'm worried about everything because of my age and i read about so many m/c's.
The general rule of thumb is to stick to what your body is used to. So if you always excercised alot, it's fine, although as things progress you might want to tone it down a bit. However, mid pregnancy is not the time to start anything strenous..lol. Just listen to your body, and you'll be fine.
I walked through my pregnancy, also did some eliptical until end of the second trimestre; did a lot of streching which helped me with backaches! Also tried some prenatal yoga. There are lots of options to exercise during pregnancy.
I was told to walk and do stationary bike. With my first I did the eliptical until the 3rd trimester than I just walked.
