Bleeding and cramps after postive ultrasound

I am about 10 weeks pregnant.  I started spotting Friday.  It was dark brown and a light flow.  By Sunday there was small amounts of red blood and by Monday there was only red blood and it was a medium, clotty and consistent flow.  I scheduled an US for Tuesday and arrived certain I was confirming a miscarriage. We were thrilled to see the baby's heart beating and he was the right size and everything looked good.  There was however a small hematoma & both the ultrasound technician and my doctor thought it was very postive because it was so small.  My Doctor said that the blood needs to work itself out, but the bleeding should slow to a stop soon.
BUT THEN!  I was awakened at 4:30 the next morning (yesterday) by terrible cramps and very heavy bleeding.  No longer clotty, just bright red heavy flow.  The cramps were the worst i have ever felt and included terrible lower back pain.  The doctor put me on bed rest and the bleeding slowed down to light spotting and the pain slowly faded by the afternoon.  Seemed like great news until I woke up this morning AGAIN with even worse pain and more heavy bleeding.  The pain has subsided enough for me to write this, but it's been intense.  Its still coming in and out but it seems like it's gradually starting to fade again.
I'm so confused!  What could be happening?  Does my baby have a chance?
Thank you for any info you can give me.

She already said that she had a small hematoma just to clarify. That is why I am giving her advice about what I have learned about hematomas.

I've been very in touch with my Dr.  She has been somewhat vague I guess.  She's optimistic and hopeful, but always adding 'if you're going to miscarry there's nothing we can do to stop it'.  So I'm riding it out in bed rest until the next US!
I guess I was just wondering if anyone had similar experiences or other insight.  Alaysha's situation sounds very similar to mine and has given me much more hope.  Maybe that's just what i need!  Thanks all!

Everyone is different so you need to call your dr. When in doubt.... call the dr no matter what. Some babies make it through others don't. Do what the dr says and bother him if you have to.

Everyone is different and every baby/pregnancy is different. You need to contact your doctor. There's nothing anyone here can tell you unless they're an OBGYN themselves. You really need to make sure that it is the hematoma causing bleeding and not a m/c. I had a m/c and those symptoms sound just like what I went through. So please, CALL YOUR DOC!

Thats how I miscarried! I was spotting then went in for an U/s to check on things and they said everything was fine. But after the u/s I started bleeding heavy and cramping...and it just got worse and worse and I miscarried. Hopefully its just what alaysha says but please talk to your doctor immediately and get checked out! Gosh girl good luck! Keep us posted!

I had a subchorionic hematoma in the beginning of my pregnancy. For 5 weeks I bled bright red worse than a period. It ended up resolving on its own and I am now 35 1/2 weeks with a healthy little girl. Honestly my doctor said that he hasn't heard of one not resolving. He's even had someone bleed until month 5 of her pregnancy. The only thing you have to worry about is if you continue to bleed until the end of your pregnancy because it could cause you to go into pre-term labor. But most likely it will stop before then. Sucks since pregnancy is the time in life where you aren't supposed to worry about bleeding!

I would call your dr. IMMEDIATELY and tell them what is going on.  I'm no dr. but I think they should see you like right now!!!  Do you have anyone that can take you so you don't have to drive??  Please keep us posted!!  God bless you and your little one!
