Hot Tub Use 3rd trimester

As DD approaches, I find myself more and more uncomfortable. I have a hot tub which I have been using for relaxation and such. I always keep the water around 95-96 degrees since I read that it is bad to increase your core temp over 101 while pregnant. But, my husband recently had a conversation with a friend whose wife is due at the same time I am and her OB said not to use the hot tub at all. What gives? Is it okay if you keep the temp down. My bath water is hotter than the hot tub water, but I understand since not all of your body is submerged this is okay and also since a bath tub does not reheat the water continuously this also prevents overheating. Is it okay at the temp that I have been keeping it at, or should I quit and find something else that is as relaxing and therapeutic on my aching body?

Well at 7 months pregnant with my son, I took a hot bath and as I got out I started bleeding then lost my son , so to all you new mom's and others it is not a great idea to take hot hot baths even if it feels awesome alot can happen. Good luck and be smart.

i lost my mucus plug 2 days and 2 nights before i delivered. i went on Sunday night 12/28 and the Hospital i go to called "Womens and Babies" Hospital actaully HAVE hot tubs for during labor....BUT they only have the temp on a safe temp. I could only sit in it for 30 min. to an hour , i had back labor...pains from my tailbone, and up my back..and after a while it got really annoying....so i walked the halls before i got my epidural. It got to the point i couldnt sit or lay and get comfortable, i had to stand, which sucked until the epidural kicked in and also before that i had to get 45 min. of IV fluids before giving the Epidural..then the put me on my side with a big birthing ball in between my legs,LOL i was pretty much uncomfortable from the time i lost my plug until i got that epidural..then the day after( i delivered 1.21am monday) went back to uncomfortable again only in diff. areas!!!

i use my hot tub every nite.  i was told by my doc it was fine until the end.  near the end you won't be able to tell if your water breaks, if you lose your mucus plug potentially germns could enter.  We keep ours set at 99-100.  I only stay in for about 7 minutes.  It is outside and unsheltered.  We are in jersey so it is cold outside.  I take my temp when I come in and then 1/2 an hour later because your temp can continue to rise even when you are out of the water.  My temp has never gotten higher than 98.9.  good luck and enjoy.

Hi,

if temperature is low it should be fine.  Also a home one should be fine, though guess they might possibly be concerned with the bugs breeding in public ones.

They recommend swimming throughout pregnancy so a low temp tub isn't much different from sitting in a pool.

Ohhhhh the hot tub sounds SOOOOO nice!!! I have always been told to avoid them BC it raises your core body temp but if you are lowering the temp in the hot tub then it should be just fine i would think! The main reason they say NO is bc there extremly hot, and if you dont make them so hot you should be ok to hop on in there!

you should be fine. I was in the hot tub my WHOLE pregnancy about 2x a week or so. I has no issues with my pregnancy, however, Keep an eye on yourself. If you feel flushed get out or sit on the top step for a couple minutes.

My SIL is a nurse and she has used her hot tub with all three pregnancy's, she keeps it at 98. You are fine as long as you keep the temp down. I have never heard that it can cause your water to break.

LauraB78 - You have got to see a chiropractor. It has helped me a bunch. I was having such bad pelvic pain that I couldn't walk ten feet without crying from the pain. I have some sciatic pain here and there and the pelvic pain is very manageable now. It took me about a month's worth of visits going 2-3 times a week to get to this point though, so you may want to consider that it isn't an immediate cure.

I was told not to use a hot tub while pregnant AT ALL.. My cousin lives 4 miles from me and has one and it has been very difficult to stay out of it..  I think this is one of those things that every Dr. has a different opinion of, though. Ask your Dr. what s/he thinks.. And let me know!!

I have been limping for 2 weeks (sciatic nerve pressure, and pain!) and have constant mid back pain. My Dr. recommended pregnancy physical therapy for relief.. Uggh, I think I may call a chiropractor. There is a chiropractor here that specializes in pregnancy adjustments.. Just a couple ideas.. Good luck!
