Always wash new clothes especially for a baby I've worked in retail and those clothes are NOT clean. Especially after people dropping them on the floor and buying them using them and returning them you don't know what's on them..

I work in retail & believe me, you should wash everything that you buy before wearing it. Many times throughout the day numerous hands have touched it, sometimes kids drool on it or worse wipe their noses with it. If the clothing is in the stockroom & theres any type of rodent problem or even occasional mouse that runs across it. The clothing falls on the ground, gets stepped on. You'd be surprised how much wear gets put on clothing before it is even bought. And thats just when its in the store. Who knows what happens to it when its being manufactured. You don't know if the item was bought, took to someones house & then returned......endless number of possibilities. ALWAYS wash new clothes.

But be careful about drying them in the drier, they shrink!

You should always wash new clothing. They soak that stiff in chemical some times the same chemicals they use for keeping dead animals like when you dissected frogs in school. Wash everything first please especially when it comes to your little one

So far The baby shampoo doesn't fade The clothes. I was worried about That happening since baby clothes get soiled easily and need to be washed alot But I Also used baby shampoo For my five year olds clothes When she was a baby and her stuff didn't fade until months later. Which Is normal For any clothing. I Also turn All The clothes inside out When washing. Not sure if it helps to prevent fading but it became a habit that stuck so i still do it lol.

It is important to wash everything you buy new not just baby clothes, they go around so many different factories and ive read many articles of people getting larvae on their body because of not washing clothes they buy. And don't use normal laundry detergent for babies, their skin is too sensative  to the dye and Perfumes.

In my opinion It's important to wash baby clothes before putting them on baby, because babys have sensitive skin and you never know what kind of stuff has accumulated on the clothes before baby has come. We stsrt shopping during our pregnancy which gives the clothes time to collect dust particles, hairs, dirt, if you own pets then pet hairs and dander... theres alot of stuff that floats around in the air that we cant even see. Plus not to mention it gives the clothes a nice clean smell. And also of you think about how many people have touched the clothes before we actually purchase them, people drop them on the floor in stores, people can be sick and shopping and touch on clothes and not buy them but leave their germs behind on them. So i just feel like its best to wash before you put it on baby. Also for baby clothes i dont use laundry soap i use Baby shampoo.  It's cheap, smells So good and cleans The clothes Just as Well. Plus I know It's gentle on baby skin since We use It to bathe them. And only a little drop will Clean a whole large load So It lasts a while

Its your choice but I personally wash them because those clothes go through so many processes before put on shelves in stores and then tons of people are touching them once theyre in stores. My babies have very sensitive skin so I use ALL Free and Clear. Its dye and perfume free and only $6 at walmart.

I'm not sure how important it is to wash clothes first. Hoeever I do know that EVERY baby's skin is super sensitive. It really doesn't matter what brand but it should be dye free. Arm & Hammer sensitive skin (green cap) is a good detergent. & so is dreft (baby laundry soap) it is very expensive though.
