Normal to be out of breath??

Hello Ladies,
I have been lurking on this site for a while but this is my first post. I am 7 weeks 4 days pregnant with my 2nd child I was wondering whether it was normal to feel so winded? I feel like everything makes me short of breath. I do not have any respiratory disease, and I am able to catch my breath if I sit down and chill out for a minute. Have any of you experienced the same? I will be asking my Doc at my next appt but thought I would try for some feedback here. Thank you for any input you might have!

No problem :)
If you want to take to your doctor about it, it would actually be a pretty good idea. I get what you are saying, especially if you did not get those symptoms during your first pregnancy. While this pregnancy doesn't have to be the same as your first, you might find some benefit, and relief in talking to your doctor. Just a thought.

Good Luck :) And take it easy!

Thanks for posting this! I feel much better! I thought that I was having some unusual problems not related to pregnancy because with my first I didn't feel this was at all!

I was actually just reading about this. Here is what some of the websites like babycenter.com say about it:

I sometimes feel short of breath now that I'm pregnant. Is this common?

'Yes, many women experience this sensation as their pregnancy advances. You may even notice it early in pregnancy, although at that stage it's more often sensed as a heightened awareness of the need to breathe.'

'You need more oxygen during pregnancy, and your body adapts to meet this need in several ways. An increase in hormones, particularly progesterone, directly affects your lungs and stimulates the respiratory center in your brain. And while the number of breaths you take per minute actually changes very little during pregnancy, the amount of air you take in with each breath increases significantly.'

'Later in pregnancy, as your growing uterus puts pressure on your diaphragm, your breathing might feel more labored — especially if you're carrying your baby high or carrying multiples.'

'You may get some relief a few weeks before you're due, especially if it's your first pregnancy. This is when some women experience lightening (the baby dropping into the pelvis).'

So I guess what we are going through is pretty normal.

Thanks ladies!!
I had read also that it can be normal, but it is much more reassuring to hear it from someone who has it also. My first pregnancy must have been the easiest ever, this one is totally different!

Hi Danielle,

I feel the same way. God, what symptoms don't I have? I have them all!! At first I thought it was kind of odd because I am a runner. I've always been active, but now a 30 min walk leaves me out of breath with pain in my lower back. It's not a good feeling.  I hear it being pretty normal during your first trimester. Funny, the doctors usually tell you to exercise, but feeling this way makes it almost impossible.

Just know that you are not the only one :)

Hi Danielle,
I am 12 weeks today!  I was getting dizzy and winded really fast.  At my check up they told me it was low blood pressure.  Which is very normal in your first trimester since all of your blood is going to build the baby and placenta.  They told me there was nothing I could really do except get up slow, rest, don't do too much too fast.  I also noticed that fresh air would help and taking long deep breaths while I was outside.  I would just go for a quick, slow walk with my husband and dog.  They said to try to eat small snacks frequently to keep blood sugar up, and drink tons of water.  Lastly, they just said to wait it out.  I have been feeling better since 9-10 weeks.  Hang in there and lets us know if you have more questions :)
