Omg I just saw I said the only way they'll give you an epidural.. I meant enema. I just did this on my previous post, I'm really hoping this is a pregnancy sign! sheesh!
Oh and let me add... do NOT give youself an enema unless you're scheduled for an induction and it is approved by your OB. An enema can, and will cause contractions and labor in many women!
I'm in Ohio, and more hospitals don't do that anymore. With my daughter, who is 12 it was mandatory. Now, no way! The only time they will give you an epidural is if the baby is having trouble coming down the birth canal, yes, I had to have this done because of that exact reason, and went from 7 cm to 10 ready to push in 5 minutes, no lie! I'm in my last few weeks of nursing school and my OB teacher who is an OB nurse said that if you want an enema, do it at home cause they hate doing it to!!!! LOL I thought it was funny, just because I wanna go into OB and I can totally feel their pain! You really don't have to worry about pooping on the Dr., they get it all the time. I did with my daughter and saw it because they had the mirror you can watch out of and I saw it come out! Ewwww! but ya know what I was so worried about pushing her out I didn't care, and as soon as it comes out the nurse is there to wipe it right up! =) You will be just fine!! =)
ya i have to say i was worried about it with my first but when u are trying to push out a baby and your in so much pain nothing else matters! i went on the table but the nurse cleaned it up so quick i didn't even know till my husband told me. i was all like i thought forsure i was gonna poop and he said "you did".. but i know they don't like to give enemas anymore because it causes more of a mess then without , with it is all liquidy and it is just unpleasent without it it may or may not happen at all! trust me ladies once the labour process starts it's the least important thing on your mind at the time...i hope this helps puts some fears at ease...
I didn't need an enema and my hubby said "nothing happened" in regards to that anyway. But I went to the bathroom when I got to the hospital. Most women will have diarrhea right before labor and that helps clean all of that out. Otherwise, it's not a problem. It won't get on baby or anything!
I didn't eat anything for 2 days before I had Aubree ( I wasn't aloud too) and I didn't have an accident..
You can have an enema if you really want one, but often you will push out some stool anyway.
The enema just makes labor more unpleasant. And sometimes, if you have an enema, what comes out while pushing is just more liquidy and harder to clean up.
Passing stool during delivery is just a part of the normal process. Rest assured it doesn't bother the nurses or the doctor at all. I can understand if it bothers you, but an enema won't necessarily prevent it from happening.
It never occurred to me that this could happen when I had my first child, so I was very surprised when it DID happen. I was so mortified that I insisted on having an enema with my second. Not sure how many hospitals do this anymore, but when I had my kids back in the 80's, it didn't seem to be an issue.
My sister is a med tec for L&D and trust me I have hear about her having to clean poop all the time. It is actually kind of funny now that I think about it...
They used to routinely give enemas here in the states but don't do so much anymore. Yes, when you are pushing many women will have a bowel movement. It's not uncommon and doctors/nurses see this every day. Honestly...when you're on the bed, having contractions and in pain...the least of your worries is whether or not you poop yourself. I've had 4 vaginal deliveries and I honestly don't know If I've done that with any of them...it really doesn't bother me one way or the other.
almost every woman does this, enema or no, but the nurses are right on top of it and clean it up quickly and quietly so yeah, you dont even realize youve done anything!
that is so funny that i saw this thread because its something i have been scared off my partner and i are trying to have a baby and i kept thinking will that happen to me?
lol owel part of life i guess
i think everyone els partners etc wont pay attention to it there more excited about there new baby!
thank you for the insight...im not sure if im relieved after reading all the posts hahahh!
it still embarrrasses me to think that i might do that during delivery!
im due nov.25th ..so maybe i better make sure i dont get constipated around that time,,poor doctors and nurses...grrrr! :( not only they will have to deal with all that blood and stuff but my poop too,,,wow!its crazy what we go through...
thank you ladies
hehehe. this was my worst nightmare!!!! i was sure i would poo myself during delivery! and when they told me they were going to have to take me to the OR for emergency csection, the first thing i thought was, "at least i won't have to worry about pooping myself!!!"
It isn't mandatory here in the states. I know if you ask for one some hospitals will still allow you to have one. I know my hospital and my doc do not do it for L&D patients period, even if you ask for it. I did go #2 with my youngest son, and I even farted in my docs face lol but it is all 100% normal. Infact 9 times out of 10 you don't even know your going #2 when it does happen. So it isn't completely 100% obvious to you or your significant other. It may smell (sorry tmi) but giving birth doesn't smell all that pretty either, so the #2 smell is kind of masked by the smell of delivery.
My step sis went #2 when giving birth, but they generally put one of those like piddle pads over your rectum, so that when you do have a BM if you do, no one can see it, and when your done pushing, they grab the poop in the piddle pad and throw it away...so no one see's it.
I only knew she went poop because like CYW, she went when baby was starting to crown, she also had a 10 pound baby lol. And I would c r a p myself too if I had to push out a baby that big lmao.
Of course naturally you are going to be worried and nervous about going #2 but I just look at it that doctors have probably seen much worse than that (it comes with their profession) and you will be so engrossed in your labour and getting you baby here (and probably the pain too) that at the time you probably won't even notice, won't care or will get over it. Once you have you baby probably not much else will matter. I try and look at it positively lol (if there is such thing!) Good luck.
here in canada they dont give enemas however i did go #2 while giving birth and it wasn't from pushing too hard...it was as the baby was decending to crown...the nurse told me it was fairly common and that about 98% of women go#2 during delivery but fail to admit it...She assured me that she could get everyone's paper work for that day.. and that within all the women who delivered that day... probably about 40...only 1 or 2 had not went #2...I cried before giving birth because I feared it because I was so constipated for 2 weeks and some and had not went...she told me regardless if i needed to go or not that the baby would be pushing it out because of how the baby decends...it's gross but it's part of life I guess...
We actually had a very active post about this. In Dominican Republic, they give you the enema when you are in labor, just to avoid an accident. Most of the ladies here were commenting that its not mandatory in the US, but i beleive they offer you one if you request it.
I had an enema with y first delivery and it wasnt bad at all, so I guess it all depends on each person...Good luck!
P.s. When are you due?
