am i pregnant?

Hello,
I am really worried and stressed due to my missed periods. plz help me out.
My menstrual cycle was due on 7th june and today is 20th june. I had unprotected sex just 5 days before i.e. 16th june. Though my bf used withdrawal method and also he is sure that he pulled out even 1 sec before ejaculation. But I am still worried since I didnt get my periods yet. I performed a pregnancy test today and it was negative. Do you think that the pregnancy test is accurate since it has been just 5 days since I had sex.
Pls help me out..
Thanks

There is a chance of pregnancy if for some reason you ovulated late that month which could be caused by a number of things including stress, weight loss/gain, and exercise.  I am also not sure how old you are but if you are still young your periods and ovulation may not be the same each month because your body is still getting used to it.  Pregnancy tests after a missed period are accurate if you ovulated and conceived at the normal time.  For you if you ovulated later then it would not be accurate.  You need about 14 days for the egg to be fertilized and implant into your uterus and start secreting the HCG hormone.  Since you took the test 5 days after your encounter you were about 9 days too soon.  I would take another test in a few days and see what it says and then again around 14 days after your last encounter unless you get your period.  Good luck.

thanks a lot evry1 for your responses.I was under impression that pregnancy test taken after missed periods are accurate. @Clysta: I had sex 1 week after the period was due. Today its almost 2 weeks now. It was expected on 7th june but today is now 21st and I had sex on 17th june and I took pregnancy test on 20th june. and @jrobertson, yeah i used my first morning urine for pregnancy test which was negative. So is thr still a chance that I can be pregnant??

It may be too soon.  Normally it takes at least 12 - 14 days after the actual encounter for implantation to occur and enough HCG starting to be released to be able to be detected in the urine.  Did you use your first morning urine?  The first morning is the best because it is the most concentrated.  Most women do ovulate around cycle day 14 (which is counted from the first day of your last menstrual cycle) but some do ovulate later and some months people may ovulate later than normal.  I would wait until 14 days have passed from the encounter and test again.  It may just be something hormonal as well so if you keep getting negative tests and no period call your doctor as he may want to just check your HCG blood levels, hormones, and possibly your thyroid.  Good luck.

if you ovulated late it could be possible and that would cause your period to be late. When we were not ttc, My husband and I used the withdraw method as birth control and it was effective for us.  Stress can cause your period to be late too, If you wait another 6 or 7 days and still get a negative pregnancy test then I'd say you are not pregnant.

As I'm sure you know, the withdrawal method is NOT birth control and won't do much. Were you having unprotected sex before your period was due? If not, then it's unlikely pregnancy. For a pregnancy test to be accurate, you need to wait at least 2 weeks from the last sexual encounter to test, though even then they still have a high chance of showing an inaccurate answer.
