You are supposed to pump every 2 hours for 10-15 minutes per breast. That is what your baby would typically be doing if they were to latch on because breast milk digest quicker and baby eats more often. In the first week you will only supply about an ounce or so, their bellies are still really small. When they are around 3 weeks you will get more milk because their bellies are growing. It may not seem like they are getting enough because of the small amount that is coming out but they are, that's why they eat more often, it's filling and it's better digestion on their bellies! Also it's good for you because it's a calorie burner. My sister was 125 before pregnancy, got up to 150 and is now UNDER her pre-preg weight and has her abs back because of breast feeding, she ate whatever she wanted. Make sure you drink LOTS of water through every pump and feed. At least a bottle of water when you pump and feed, it will help with the production as well.
How often are u pumping? I went 6 hours last night and got 6oz total. Try pumping every 4 hours and then once u start getting some try 5 hours and so on.
I think thats probably an old wives tale thought up to try to control the hormones! I have heard that it is more difficult to express or feed while stressed though they say you should be calm and relaxed for the best results. I gave up trying after a week with my daughter, but I had nothing there, no pain, no engorgement, nothing. Sorry I'm no more help.
Wen i pump I only get an ounce and that from both breast! It hurts my back so bad wen I pump. is it true that stress and my mood can sour my milk
I had my son on june 9h and breastfed while i was in the hospital only 4 days but when we got home I started pumping. Its sooooi much easier :) my boobs and nipples hurt so bad from breastfeeding. In order for ur milk to keep coming in u need to pump like every 4 hours. It goes on supply and demand. I pump every 4-5 hours and get about 3 oz each side. Good luck.
It is hard at first. I wanted to quit and just give formula because my breast were huge and i didnt feel good with my self i had alot of milk though, but i just couldnt stop i felt guilty after a week or so i felt way better im now exclusively breastfeeding my son i just have to watch what i eat because he is allergic to lactose. I say continue in order for your milk to come more and for the engorment to go away breastfeed often and you will see that with time it gets better. But if you dont its fine it takes a couple of days for the engorment to go away, dont put nothing hot instead put cold patches and something tight and drain a little milk after 2 days you will see a difference.
In a week or so it should start getting easier... but saying that your not the only one and for some BFing isnt for them... it can be hard and a lot of work, but should be enjoyable at least eventually(with in the first couple weeks or so anyway) I suggest trying to stick with it for a little longer cause it should get better but if you already decided that you dont want to and your sure then its completely up to you but once you stop and lose your milk supply there is no turning back and some mommas have regrets that they should have tried a little longer...
And i just wanna add that your body will start to produce what you need so for the most part you shouldnt have that painful full feeling... your body is still adjusting at this point...(sorry i just read thats what mamabear already said)
Once the engorgement goes down its soooo much easier! Mine were huuuuge but would hardly let anything out like yours. But now its way better. It just takes a few days!
