how long after my irregular period should i wait to take a pregnancy test?

I was 9 days late for my period.  Took 2 tests that both came out negative . When I got my monthly it was short and light. Now how long after it stops should I wait to take another test...

I am 42 years old.Last month I got my periods on 5th of november it lasts up to 10th November. On 22nd without any precaution myself and my hubby had intercourse. Till now I didn't got my periods.  I tested using that pregnency kit on 5th of December and again on 8th of December. It came negative on both tests. Mucus is watery.I don't have any symptoms of periods.I am afraid that I am pregnant.Can anyone clear my doubt. Thanks.

If your period is irregular then how do you know you're 9 days late. If it's been 2-3 weeks since intercourse then you can test, otherwise it could have been too early. Obviously because your cycles are so irregular then it's possible that the test is right and you're not pregnant and your period is just late.
