medicines on 12th day of conception

hi  i  have taken  tablet fluconazole 300mg at the end  of  4 weeks  of  pregnancy.that  is  approximately on the  11th  day  of  conception. i  m a primigravida aged  32  yrs  and  a  general  practitioner. i  m really  worried  wheather  2  continue  this  pregnancy  as  effect  of  the  tab  lasts  for   7  days  in  blood  and  medical  literature i reffered 2  shows  that even  a  single  tab fluconazole  taken  during  pregnancy  has  left  to  birth  defects. but i  read  on  ur  site  that  first 18 days  of  conception  baby  is  resistant  to  harm ful  effect  of  drugs  n  radiation.my  latest  usg  done  on  31st july  shows  normal  intrauterine  pregnancy  of 8weeks  and 5days with  heart  beat  of159beat per minute.my  lmp  is  5th  june  i  took  tab  on  2nd  july...  wat  to  do  pls  help.

Anjana- I am in a very similar situation. Can you please let me know if everything went well and that the baby is healthy? Your response would be of tremendous help. I am freaking out here.

My understanding is that medications will have no effect on a pregnancy until the placenta forms which is closer to 9-10 weeks.  I wouldn't think that taking medication so early into your pregnancy would cause a problem but you will need to double check with your obgyn.  Also, don't forget that because a medication "can" cause birth defects that doesn't mean it "will". Even with class D medications the likelihood of defects is very low.
