I'm 9w5d, and i had a viability ultrasound at 7 weeks.  When I was at the nurses appointment, she told me my next one was at 20 weeks... And I fought it.  I had a missed miscarriage last year and we aren't sure how long the baby had been gone (had an ultrasound at 6 weeks, there was a deformity, so they checked again at 8 weeks, deformity still there but so was a baby, and then because I was high risk, I had another ultrasound at 12 weeks and found we had lost the baby).  This happened sometime between 8 and 12 weeks.  Now, my situation was different because I was high risk, but I was able to fight the "common rule" and I now have another ultrasound scheduled for 11 weeks just to make sure everything looks OK still.

If you feel more comfortable with a new doctor, that is YOUR RIGHT. One extra ultrasound for simple peace of mind is not much to ask for, and frankly, we shouldn't HAVE TO switch doctors (like you) or fight for peace of mind (like me).  Best of luck to you.

With my first I only had two ultrasounds one at three months the other at 7months. With my,second I had three. Confirmation in the first 8wks, then 20wks found a low lying placenta so I got a third around 33-34wks. We miscarried last year at 12wks. Now currently pregnant and bcuz of my most recent experience I'm 9wks and had two ultrasounds already to keep a close eye on baby. It depends on ur doctor ur condition and insurance. Here in Canada ultrasounds are covered with proof of health card

I work in ob/gyn. You should have confirmation and dating ultrasound in the beginning at least 7 weeks to see a sac and heart beat. A buccal is done at 12 weeks to measure the spine. Next there is usually fetal survey that is done around 20 weeks. Finally an AFI and EFW is done around 35 weeks. Hope that helps.

I wouldn't say the doppler doesn't work. .i think the person using it didn't know what they were doing.  Sorry for your loss

Where i am from they usually only do 2.  A dating ultrasound around 8 weeks or so and then anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks. Unless they are not able to get the measurements or want to recheck something. I have actually had 3 already at 19 weeks. And one next week. I had a sub chronic hemmorage they were watching.  Then hopefully i am good.

With my first baby I had a vag to confirm, then one for the gender, then the 4d,and then one at the end to get last minute measurements for delivery. My Dr was awesome and we clicked instantly.

My doc did a vaginal at 7wks and I get an ultrasound schedule every 4wks. I don't think monthly is a must but I'm glad they do because it'sexcited to see your baby growing.

I got one at 6 weeks+4 to confirm, then my anatomy one at 20 weeks. At 20 weeks they noticed low-lying placenta so had me rechecked at 32 weeks. Everything checked out at 32 weeks so I was told there would be no more unless my Dr. ordered for some reason.

My doctor only does one unless health reasons make them do more.

Not trying to scare anyone but the doppler's don't always work. My last pregnancy they used the doppler 2 days before my son was stillborn & they told me he was fine, it was picking up my heartbeat not his.

I got 3. The first vaginal ultrasound to confirm at 7 weeks. The 13 week ultrasound for genetic screening and then the 19 week for anatomy scan. :) I was also able to find out what I was having at 13 weeks even though that's not their focus.

I was tempted to switch doctors because I heard of a doctor that does an u/s every month! Very jealous for that mommy

I only get one, it was at 20wks. I was told it was because of our ins, not the doc

I got my first ultrasound at 12 wks they wouldn't do it before because there is a window week 11-14 to test to see of the baby has health problems such as down syndrome and such and they can only test during that window hope that helps you!! My next one will be 20 weeks and then they said once a month after that to make sure the baby is growing correctly however I do have crohns disease so not sure if thats why every month after 20 weeks however I am not high risk

With my first we only got 2 ultrasounds, 8weeks to date and make sure it was a viable pregnancy (heartbeat was there) and then again at 20 weeks for anatomy scan. But as long as they are using the Doppler to hear the heartbeat, there it's really no need for an ultrasound until 16-20 weeks

some places are really strict and only do ultrasounds at 8 weeks 20 weeks and 36 weeks just three throughout your whole ten month process

There's a reason for not doing ultrasounds. ACOG only recommends getting one at 20 weeks.
