Its inserted into your vagina up to your bladder. It doesn't hurt but can feel a little weird and the nurses tell you to relax when they take it out otherwise it can be uncomfortable.

With my first I arrived 2hrs before mine. The nurse shaved me got me dressed and took us down to the OR. I thrn sat on the edge of the bed and held my husbands hand while they did the spinal. I lay down and they inserted the cathetar and then about 5mins later baby was out, husband cut cord and baby was passed to me for cuddles while they stitched me up. Then baby went to nicu because he was prem and I went to recovery for half an hour before going up to me room. I didn't have any problems with the aneasthetic so I had dinner that night. The next morning they took the cathetar out, helped me shower, then I was up walking around and visiting baby in nicu.
I just had my 2nd csection 4wks ago but that one was an emergency csection. I was already in hospital when I went into labour. They shaved me in the birthing suite then took me round to the OR. They did the spinal but when they went to check it I wasn't numb so they had to put me to sleep. My husband said he was taken out of the room while they took baby out but he was only gone about 4mins (he could see the clock) before they imvited him back to cut the cord then he got to take the baby to recovery with him where he waited for me. When I woke up I had a cough and the shakes but I got to hold baby straight away. About an hour after that we all went back up to the ward. That night I was allowed to eat because I had no other side effects but didn't feel like it. The next morning they took the cathetar out and showered me but I was pretty sore. I tried to sit in the chair as much as possible instead of lying down and go for little walks as much as possible as I remembered that helped recover quick with my first. I needed a few more painkillers this time then my first but at the same time having a toddler this time as well as a newborn meant the day I got home from the hospital I was running around and lifting, a week later I was out Christmas shopping with them. I'm now 4wks postpartum and no issues. Wishing you all the best!

Short version - I had to go the Sunday before my Monday induction to register and get blood work done.  Monday,I checked in at 10:30 am, had to put on gown and get hooked up to the iv. The doc came in to administer my epidural (he was great). I was wheeled into the c-section room,  it was freezing,  the doc pumped up my epidural meds and gave me something for the shakes. A catheter was inserted.  Before I knew it,  like within 15 minutes of being in the operating room my baby was delivered, I didn't feel a thing.  They closed me up while my husband held the baby, he brought her to me. I was wheeled back into recovery, got skin to skin contact with my baby girl and then wheeled to my room. Recovery was uncomfortable,  you'll need help and the very first time I got up,  it was hard but doable.
