for mothers who breastfed

Hey ladies. I'm expecting my second child in September and I want to breast feed so bad.. It didn't work out with my first. My milk supply was low and I couldn't breast feed her past 3 months. I was devastated.. Did any of you mothers have success breastfeeding the second or third time around after not being able to? I'm nervous I won't have enough for this baby either..

Ya I agree on the pacifier. My daughter nursed for 17 1/2 months and had a pacifier on day 5!!! She was always very sure of if she wanted to nurse or just suck. I always offered to let her nurse first and if she didn't want it she would keep pulling away. Also my supply wasn't great but I never supplemented!! And never did bottles. I have heard to not even try pumping for the first few weeks to allow your body to build up a supply. But I really would look into getting with a lactation consultant and asking for help with it especially when you draw closer to that mark that you did with your first. Google lactation cookies also as there are tons of recipes you can make that will help with milk production.

I disagree mainly because my best friend is a lactation consultant at our hospital. Your body supplies more the more you breastfeed period.but don't take my word for it if you don't believe me. Read any La Leche League literature. It's out there. If you have a milk supply issue you shouldn't use a pacifier period.

Actually giving or not giving a pacifier to your baby has nothing to do with your milk supply. If baby doesn't want the paci believe me he/she will let you know they want the boob. It's actually encouraged by pediatricians and many studies to give your baby a paci for the first month or 2 as it greatly decreases the risk of SIDS. And as far as the tea, I found it at Target.

First and foremost no pacifiers or supplemental bottles (including expressed breast milk) for the first six weeks. If your baby wants to suck, put him or her to breast. That means allowing yourself to be a pacifier in the meantime. It also ensures a really good milk supply, as breast milk is a supply and demand situation. Your body will automatically make more.

Also, there are some herbs that help, from blessed thistle, to fenugreek, etc. the easiest thing is Traditional Medicinals Mother's Milk tea. You may have to order it online if you don't have a local health food store. Also, add coconut oil to your diet as coconut oil is made up of medium-chain fatty acids and has Laurie acid, same as breast milk.
