Curb your appetite

i am losing the battle against calorie intake. I know you're not supposed to go over 2,200 calories per day..... but how? Every once in a while I go over and I'll feel super guilty. I do protein shakes, protein bars, healthy snacks and no meals and extra water. I don't regularly give in to cravings either. It is hard when all I can think about is my next snack. What do you do to stay under 2,200? Any recommendations to ease the pain of the calorie count?

I don't count calories. I eat when I am hungry but I make sure I  choosing healthy options like fruit, Greek yogurt, or raw veggies with hummus as snacks. I am 28 weeks and I have gained 12 lbs. I also work out and walk a mile at least 3 times a week. This makes me feel better about it on the days I splurge on a milkshake! I am 31 so I know getting the weight off will be harder once baby is here. Just try to eat healthy. If you are hungry, your body is using what you have put in it. So eat momma!! Just eqt healthy!

This is my second child and I usually make great snack choices and fill in snacks with protein bars but I'm finding that I'm still hungry. My doctor doesn't have any concerns about my weight gain but I don't want to eat more than I'm supposed to either. I am 30 and I don't want extra weight gain. :( pregnancy is not as fun this time around.

Yeah if your weight isn't a concern,  and your health is good.. i don't count calories at all. I try more to make sure I am eating enough. I eat small meals and snacks at least every 2 hours... healthy snacks and small meals.

Protein shakes and bars may be making you feel really deprived. That's not really food. Whatever your doc has recommended, can you go back to eating real actual food? Even if it's just a little bit, you may be better able to enjoy and savor your food (thus not associating food with guilt and deprivation) if it's things you like.

Either way I wouldn't really bother counting unless your doctor is concerned that you are gaining too fast. Just pick healthy foods and rat whenever you need to.

2200 calories is a fair lot of food. For instance you could have 2 eggs 2 pieces bacon a piece of toast some sauteed vegetables and half a banana for breakfast for about 400 calories. A yogurt as a snack 2 hours later is 150 calories. Lunch could be a grilled chicken sandwich and some cut veggies and ranch for maybe 400 calories. Second snack a granola bar for 150 calories. Dinner is steak and brocolli and a baked potato with a few toppings maybe 750 calories if you splurge a bit, tops. That's 1850. Let's estimate high and say you actually dwureze 2000 calories in to that. You can still have half a cup of ice cream and some strawberries and a touch of chocolate drizzle for dessert topping out your day at 2200 calories.  That's 4 meals 2 snacks and dessert. It all depends on what choices you are making.

Did your doctor recommend this calorie regimen? My doctor simply said you do not need to "eat for two" simply 300 extra calories per day is all you need or in other words an apple and a yogurt. Just focus on healthy foods and eat small meals every couple hours. If your doctor recommends more food intake they will bring it up to you.
