I said no as wel after long deliberation and decided it's not worth the added stress since it all just numbers. I did get the alphafetoprotein blood test because it's routine and that came back normal. Now I'm justbwaitinf for my us on Tuesday and something should be caught there if anything. I have no regrets and even if there were some abnormality, I would still keep my baby and love him/her to pieces..
I have been getting the testing because it's good to be prepared and to know ahead of time if you will be having a child with special needs.
That way you can do your research and get anything extra you may need that you wouldn't normally need.
I'm 17 weeks and decided against doing the testing as well. It's a totally personal choice to do it or not. When I told my doctor I would not be getting it done she looked at me dumbfounded. If you do decide to get it done...it's just to prepare yourself for the future. They can't do anything about it during your pregnancy. Don't worry about what everyone else feels...if you feel in your heart of hearts that it's not gonna change your mind about having the baby...then it's perfectly fine not to have it done.
I got the genetic testing done but that is my personal opinion. If it really makes no difference to you then opt out.
I did that with my first and being PG with the second I decided not too. Really what did women do 100 yrs ago?!
Even though it would not of changed my heart or prompted me to terminate my pregnancy, I got it done for a few different reasons 1st and foremost becausey hospital isn't equipped to care for a special needs baby and I would have delivered in a different town , also, I wanted to be mentally and emotionally prepared if there is such s thing, the tests are not100% accurate but it gave me a piece of mind knowing it came back normal paired with am anatomy scan that was also "normal" do whatever makes you comfortable and at peace :)
depends on the reasoning that they told you that they were doing them. I was given the option last pregnancy because the downs testing came back flagged after my blood test. they flagged it but it was still 1 in 810 So i said no to the testing. My DH and I said it wasn't going to make us love the baby any differently so until there was something really scaring the doctors we weren't doing it. but it is 100% your decision.
Maybe it doesn't make a difference to you but sometimes it may change the fate of your baby if something is wrong. They operate prenatally these days. But it depends. If you don't want to then don't do it. Simple.
