Gestational diabetes test

Are there any moms out there that didn't go for their 3 hour test after they were told they didn't pass the 1 hour test? I just don't feel like I should have the 3 hour test done... I also ate before I got the test cause they told me I didn't have to fast. Any opinions?

Whoops, I meant my blood sugar level was 168. 130-140 is the cutoff to pass the 1 hr. Good luck.

I don't know what the numbers were, but I started at 152 lbs, and I've only gained 7 lbs and I'm almost 30 weeks. I eat everything so I'm not incredibly concerned but I'll talk to my Dr tmrw and if he's concerned then I'll go for the 3 hour test

Go for the 3 hr, it is more definitive. The 1 hr is just a screening and could sometimes be inaccurate. I failed my 1 hr with a 168. I really thought I was going to fail the 3 hr too but my numbers were well within normal limits, so I passed. Just eat normal. Fasting or not, they make u drink loads of sugar to see how your body can handle it.

As a nurse I would be surprised if they let you so the test again. Like I said, it isn't a fasting test,  so it really doesn't matter. The three hour one isn't too bad. Just bring a book to read. Good luck mama:)

Honestly inwould suggest doing the 3 hour and not the 1 hour again as the numbers are a different in the one hour than the three. Ots harder to pass 1 hour even ifnu did pass which is pretty much delaying the inevitable. The 3 hour one is not bad and its best to know for sure if you has GD as you need to be on a special diet and in some cases insulin.depending on your body.

That's what I was planning on doing. I see my Dr again on Thursday, so I'll ask him then

Why don't you ask if you can redo the test again the 1hr tell them you ate before which would of gave you an inaccurate reading

Ok people, relax. I'm just getting opinions. I wouldn't purposely do anything to harm my baby or me.

I didn't. But saying that, I did have a blood test meter prescribed and treated my sugar 4x daily until my Dr determined my levels were actually fine and I did not have gd.... if you opt out of the three hr, definitely test your sugar level.

I fasted before my one hour, I hadn't ate anything, I was 16 weeks, mine came back 195, This is my second child, first one caused me to have pre eclampsia, high blood pressure, I am also an epileptic...I now have gd and could potentially have pre eclampsia again with this one, I'm high risk, I would absolutely take the 3 hr, gd and pregnancy causes a lot of health problems for you and the baby, and if not looking forward to a c section (GD causes overweight babies) that can't pass thru the birth canal

You don't need to fast prior to the one hour test.  And trying it again and not taking it correctly isn't a good idea. They can't treat potential issues if you try and doctor the test.  I just had to take the three hour test.  I didn't fully pass and am considered glucose intolerant. I hated the test but it's better that I know. That way I can focus on making the right choices so my baby is as healthy as she can be. They have those tests for a reason so please take it right.

You don't need to fast before the 1h test. And yes, you should go to the 3h. Why wouldn't you?  Untreated gdm can lead to terrible consequences for you and your baby.
It's not an exan that you fail.... it will allow you to get treatment if needed and prevent things from going wrong.

I'm always a bit surprised and concerned when I read those kind of posts :/ your maternity carers have a lot to answer for as they don't provide education around gdm. And clearly,  it is required.

I think you should do it. Yes it isn't fun, but if you have gd you need to be educated on next steps and they'll want to monitor the baby more closely

You should take the 3 hour. I took mine today, after failing one hr 2 weeks sgo. If you choose not you and your baby can have major affects. Educate yourself before u decide.

Usually if your body is working the way it's supposed to your pancreas will supply the right amount of insulin whenever you eat, so it doesn't really matter if you fast before the test or not. It should cover what you ate and then cover the additional stuff they have you drink. You probably weren't that far off that's why they want you to do a 3 hour test to make sure you are completely in normal range.
