So I was diagnosed with HPV after age 25 and the shots were not available to me because of my age. Do you ladies remember the ad campaign "I wana be one less. One less." That was when they jump started the shots to immunize young girls against some of the strains but not all. I was diagnosed with high risk, low grade lessons which means the strand of the virus I contracted was high risk cancer causing (no warts) and there were low grade lesion cell changes visable on my cervix from the pap smear. I had the cryo therapy where they froze off a layer of the skin on the cervix to stop the abnormal cells from multiplying into cancer. Then a year later it was still detected so I had a seperate procedure which was more invasive where they cut off a layer of the cervix with what they call a Loop procedure or Leep procedure removing any pre cancerous cells. I now test negative for HPV. HPV is an issue because no one talks about it, it can cause cervical cancer if untreated and many adults have it already. HPV needs more media although people are embarrassed or ashamed by having it we need to also be responsible. There are many studies suggesting it causes throat cancer in men who contract the virus from preforming oral sex on an infected partner. I think HPV needs to be talked about, I am glad you are doing so here.

They vaccinate girls and boys against HPV but there are so many strands its difficult to get them all in the vaccination.  Schools recommend it for 8th graders. Unfortunately the side effects to the vaccination can be severe and even fatal. My 12 yr old niece died from an allergic reaction to the vaccination. For me I have mixed feelings about the vaccination.  However I think there are more options to a cure now than before

They do have a series of vaccines for HPV. Not sure if you got them or not. Its 3 separate vaccines to prevent the disease from spreading by giving your body the antibodies to fight. Did you ever get them?

I had HPV after my first daughter. It scared me too so bad I didn't go get it checked out again. But when I did it had went away on its own. I used to get tested again every six months but it hasn't come back.  My friend had it and it didnt go away so they scraped and froze her cervix...not sure if she still has problems with it or not. Good luck.

Hpv, right now there is one that causes genital warts, and the other that causes cervical cancer. Most the time if you are healthy and your immune system is great, it will clear up the hpv on its own. There is no medication to make it go away. Your body has to do it on its own.
Hpv is very common, it is so common that almost everyone who is sexually active has had it once but didn't even notice.  There are no signs or symptoms.

Candylin seems to be the most informed.  The only risk to having HPV is if it's high risk or low risk.  High risk means that it can cause cancer, low risk just means that there r a few strains in the low risk category that can cause genital warts which there is no cure for, but while it's doesn't cause cancer it is extremely contagious during an outbreak which is usually always.  If u do get HPV which 70% of the adult population has, then it just needs to be monitored.  However if hpv is discovered during a pap then further tests will be conducted every 6 mos until it clears on its own or until further action is taken in the form of biopsy, leep, or another procedure to get rid of the abnormal cells caused by hpv.  As for it transferring to the baby during pregnancy there is little risk as c section is always an option. I wouldn't worry to much though, just read up on it and ull be more at ease.  goodluck.

Good luck there is a shot you can get of you don't end up having it but i was told its only for people under 25...I had a scare during this pregnancy as well and still scary actually I had displagia of the cervix and the did a small test bc I'm pregnant and its a mild case and said bc I'm pregnant that pregnancy can sometimes cancel it out and clear it up so I'm hoping that it does bc cancer runs in my.family bad everyone that has passed away either died from cancer or had cancer when they passed away ....but hpv can be a long time thing and turn into cancer they actually told me that most times people with displagia hpv was the cause of it but in my case wasn't and is very rare ...which worries me I'd rathed know what caused it then not know ....hpv can cause other warts as well not just genital ...good luck moms who have it maybe it'll go away due to pregnancy ask your dr if its possible bc sometimes pregnancy can help certain things good luck all

Yes it is an std but most people I just found out are carrying it and don't know it it's been dormant I have a low strain and will be tested again I always get tested to this is my 4th child never been positive before so either my hubs has dipped out on me or I was a carrier I do not have warts and I hope I never do as far as it being transferred to the baby there is always a chance

I have abnormal cells as well. But I have been testing positive before I was pregnant. Mine is not cancerous or harmful for my daughter. I just have a small spot that will go away on its own.

It's human pappiloma virus. It's an std. Most people who have contracted it shows no symptoms. There are over 40 different strands of the virus. A few strands cause genital warts. Most strands do not, however it can cause cervical cancer. Most people with healthy immune systems clear the virus on their own within 2 years.

Most people clear the virus naturally within 2 years. It's usually low risk that it will pass to the baby. Unfortunately there is no treatment though. Good luck, I will be praying

Well it's an STD that you can have for years without having symptoms, and there are over 40 strands of the virus. It can be transmitted through anal, vaginal and oral sex and between same sex and opposite sex partners- with or without symptoms. If you are infected during pregnancy, very rarely  it can be passed to the baby causing warts to grow in the baby's throat. If you've tested positive make sure your partner gets tested and treated too. Sorry you have to deal with this mama:(
