eating a lot of potatoes

I just noticed that over the last couple days I've been eating a lot of potato based foods. I had mashed potatoes with supper yesterday, potato chips as a snack, and I was at the mall for lunch and had new York fries. I really want potato soup for supper...am I short on some kind of vitamin that's making me want potatoes so much? I used to really dislike them, because when I was broke a few years ago, they're pretty much all I could afford to eat. I'm worried that baby isnt getting enough nutrients.

I'm guessing you are just craving the carbs. I'm currently always eating potatoes, chips, bread, cereal, crackers, etc.

I ate potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner almost every day in my first trimester. Potatoes are packed with potassium and other nutrients, which are very healthy for you! A lot of the nutrients are in the skin, so try eating more baked potatoes (with skin) so you can keep the nutrients. Just make sure you scrub the skin very, VERY well before hand. If your worried about eating healthy (which we all are) then try to avoid fried potatoes (french fries) and eat more homemade baked/mashed potatoes. Hope this helps!

KamilleB, you'd probably have better luck with that question if you make it one yourself. How much did you weigh before pregnancy? I'm not very far along yet, but I've been losing weight rather than gaining, because overall I've been eating healthier than I was before pregnancy.

Am 32 weeks pregnant and I only gained five pound. Should I be weighing more?

Thats what im mostly eating. Potatoes, french fries , chips . I cant even handle the smell of meat so anything starch is whats just working for me . I guess if u incorporate your veggies and fruits why not indulge :-)

Thanks. I guess I was just a bit concerned because carbs break down into sugars, and I'm trying to avoid gestational diabetes. I'm not craving sweets at all, but I was thinking maybe this was just as bad for me. I am taking my prenatals though, and I'm making an effort to not have potato soup for supper.

My doctor never told me it was a bad thing... I craved potatoes with my first 3 children which are all girls... She told me the carbs were good for me so you should be OK...

Not necessarily a bad thing, potatoes give you plenty of carbs and I think it's starch?
Anyway, they're one of those foods that give pretty specific stuff. Most of my diet is carbohydrates and my little one is right on track :)
Stick to those vitamins and enjoy your snacks.

Not sure but as long as you're taking prenatals, you should be fine.  That's how i was in my first trimester. Everything had to be potatoes. I could eat french fries, mashed potatoes or baked potatoes for every meal.
